VW is the parent company of Porsche, I'll bet it'll filter down eventually, I'd say Bentley, Audi aswell will get it around the same time as Porsche as it's all the same MMI platform. So it’s not backwards compatible? 😞
No VW? 😞
Apple’s going to have a **** time convincing car manufacturers to let them take over the entire info/entertainment system. Very few if any will want to give up control over this.
GM: “Our customers prefer to reach from the backseat to the touchscreen in front to change to a song they like on Spotify, we don’t want to leave out the five people who don’t have smartphones!”Sucks to be GM hahahah
Don't forget Tesla!GM: “Our customers prefer to reach from the backseat to the touchscreen in front to change to a song they like on Spotify, we don’t want to leave out the five people who don’t have smartphones!”
Is the information in this article new? I am sceptical car manufacturers would give up so much too.
I would however, at least like apple maps extended to the digital driver’s display and the HUD in my Hyundai, like it already is in the car’s sat nav. Hyundai could do that with a software update if it wanted to.
Probably prefer to sell me a new car.
I hope Lexus joins the party soon. Don't trust most of those car companies.I know where my next car will come from; Audi, Ford, Honda, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, or Volvo. I ruled out GM, Rivian, and Tesla because of their decisions to drop/not work with Apple CarPlay.
It definitely needs to recognize that podcast & music apps are different things, for starters!I’d like to see the “dock” able to hold 5 apps rather than the current 3.
VW already made clear that they do not plan to support CarPlay 2 in favour of their own OS for all brands that currently use VW.OS (VW, Seat, Skoda, Cupra). Just MMI platform brands get CarPlay 2.VW is the parent company of Porsche, I'll bet it'll filter down eventually, I'd say Bentley, Audi aswell will get it around the same time as Porsche as it's all the same MMI platform.
I mean yeah, I can't drive so it's not something I have personal experience with. I can give the benefit of the doubt there, I just recall this DF post (that took a fair bit of Googling to find):I think most are just going to allow it to now overtake the display in front of the steering wheel, which should be a nice touch. Just like physical controls, once you get familiar with the location, it is easy to use. I still never blind reached for a knob. I feel like most people who are concerned with digital buttons are more intimidated by the idea and have not actually used them.
LOL, unless reconnecting CarPlay completely ends up working, once I got on iOS 17 CarPlay says ‘Something Went Wrong’ and won’t load maps or anything. I’m sure it’s some undocumented update process I’m not aware of.So it’s not backwards compatible? 😞
No VW? 😞
Let’s hope. But I don’t think my existing Golf GTI (MY16) will get the updated version. May need to swap out the whole unit - could be a good excuse to increase the screen size!VW is the parent company of Porsche, I'll bet it'll filter down eventually, I'd say Bentley, Audi aswell will get it around the same time as Porsche as it's all the same MMI platform.
BMW have lost me as a customer for sure, by declining to adopt the new car play 😡
CarPlay didn't receive much attention during the WWDC keynote, but the iPhone-based software platform did receive a few new features with iOS 17, including SharePlay support in the Music app and real-time electric vehicle charging station availability.

SharePlay support in the Music app allows all passengers in a car to control what music is playing from their own devices, even if they do not have an Apple Music subscription. The primary user can initiate a SharePlay session from CarPlay.
Apple Maps now provides electric vehicle drivers with real-time charging availability information for their preferred charging network, and this feature extends to the Maps app on CarPlay, making it easy to find an available charging location while driving.
The new CarPlay features are automatically available after updating an iPhone to iOS 17. The software update will be released to the public later this year for the iPhone XS and newer, and it is currently available in beta for developers.

The wait continues for the next generation of CarPlay that Apple announced at WWDC 2022. Apple said the first vehicles with next-generation CarPlay support would be announced in late 2023, so more details should be provided in the coming months. New features previewed last year included integration with a vehicle's instrument cluster and climate controls, support for multiple displays, a built-in FM radio app, widgets, and more.
Apple said automakers committed to offering the next generation of CarPlay in future vehicles included Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, and Volvo.

Only the short sighted ones.Apple’s going to have a **** time convincing car manufacturers to let them take over the entire info/entertainment system. Very few if any will want to give up control over this.
Anyone in the car just needs to scan a QR code on your car’s screen and voila! Works great on the dev beta. Now the question is, how that works.
Do you initiate it from the CarPlay screen? Then basically passenger can do it too. I mean, the screen is in the middle.
