In a video released today, Apple has outlined several improvements coming to the Wallet app and Apple Pay with iOS 17. The software update is currently in beta and will be released to the public later this year for the iPhone XS and newer.

A major redesign for the Wallet app that was rumored ahead of WWDC never materialized, with only modest changes made in iOS 17.

Apple Pay order tracking is getting several enhancements, including Apple Maps support, receipts for transactions, the ability to add an order to the Wallet app from an email attachment, and a new "Track with Apple Wallet" button for apps and websites.

If a user is tracking an Apple Pay order with a specified pickup time and location, the Maps app will now proactively suggest it through Siri Suggestions.

Merchants can now attach a receipt to Apple Pay orders as a PDF or image file, so the customer has a record of payment in the Wallet app. Merchants can also now attach Apple Pay orders to emails, such as the order confirmation email. The customer can then tap on the email attachment in the Mail app and add the order to the Wallet app.

Apple has also introduced a new "Track with Apple Wallet" button that merchants can add within their iPhone apps and websites.

As previously announced by Apple, iPhone users will be able to present a driver's license or ID stored in the Wallet app at participating businesses and venues starting later this year. Users will simply hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near the business's iPhone to verify their age and identity for things like alcohol, rental cars, and more.

Apple calls this feature Tap to Present ID on iPhone and provides more details in its video.

These look like nice additions.

But please can we have Apple Cash in the UK.

thxbye.
Sadly that and Apple Card will never come to the uk. The card fees alone make it not worth apples time, they could never sustain the level of cash back that America benefits from 😭

But I really hope they add the ability to track custom tracking numbers in the wallet app

Apple isn't the one who gives the cash back though. In the U.S., the cash back on the Apple Card is given by Goldman Sachs since that's the bank Apple partnered with and who issued the card.

Mkay - meanwhile we are still waiting for the possibility to actually name cards to be able to differentiate them from another
 You're having trouble differentiating one card from another?

Each card is clearly different from one another. No way I'm going to confused, for instance, an AmEx card from a Sapphire Reserve card or a Bank of America card. Even someone who's color blind can see difference.

Apparently it's possible for some people to have cards that don't look the same as yours.

If you have two cards from the same bank they will look identical in that view.

What if I told you...some people have multiple accounts with the same bank?

All the bank's cards look the same, and the account number is not the same as on the physical card. So I have to identify it by a four digit number or by position, when a far simpler solution is to simply allow me to give it a nickname.

I'll take any love to the Wallet app Apple wants to extend. But those earlier screen shots of a much better organized Home Screen (if you will) were pretty exciting. It's still pretty wild west.

It's a shame this turned out to be a leak detector rumor. Hopefully someone is actually working on it and just leaked an early screenshot.

Then they would look identical in real life too? I have two cards from the same bank, and the wallet knows the custom graphics I use for each card.
No they wouldn’t because, at least in my bank, you can customise the look of the card and in Apple Pay you can’t.

Also on real card you have numbers and names and in Apple Pay name is hidden all the time and 4 last numbers are shown only when you tap on concrete card.

Of course these are small things we can live with but also could be easily fixed if Apple wanted to (at least as an option).

PS. I’m not from US so my experience can be different from yours.

I've had it since day one and it has never had any benefit - hotels in other states did not understand what it was so I had to break out the real one.
That is interesting. I have routinely used a photo of my Driver’s License on my phone at hotel with no problem, something that is completely unofficial and have not had a problem.
TSA wasn't sure about it so I broke out a passport.
My Driver’s license is not a REAL ID yet, and I have Clear, so I rarely use my license for that. I just want it in case I am ever stopped by the police.

I have several ATM/Debit cards with one of my Credit Unions and I still cannot remember which is which in real life, so totally agree with you.

The number on the displayed on bottom of the card image in wallet is the last four of your actual card. The Apple Pay card account number is different.

I tend to use position, but a nickname would be nice.

This app and service should literally be illegal without either a mac app or web app. You should have all avenues of access to financially related materials instead of being jailed to a single device.
