Apple in iOS 17 has introduced a number of changes across its stock apps, including the Weather app. With the update, there are some minor changes to the functionality and design of the app.

The biggest update is an option to see yesterday's weather in the 10-day forecast. In iOS 16, you can only view the current day and the next 10 days, but in iOS 17, you can view current day, the next 10 days, and the weather from the previous day.

10-day forecasts show the chance of rain each day and offer a "daily summary" instead of a forecast.

The main Weather interface has been updated with large "My Location" text for the weather forecast in at your current location, with the city underneath. In iOS 16, it simply said the city, which could be confusing when navigating through multiple saved cities.

Some of the weather modules have been relocated, with rain and hourly forecasts shown first. News and alerts are shown lower in the app, and there is a new "Averages" weather module that displays how the current temperature deviates from the historical average on that day.

Apple has added a moon module that shows the current status of the moon, the time until the next full moon, moonset and moonrise times, and a moon calendar, plus the wind speed module is a larger size that shows information on gust speed at a glance. The wind module also displays a daily comparison and a wind scale.

Daily comparisons are included for UV index, humidity, the "Feels Like" index, and visibility, and there are options to change units for wind speed, precipitation, pressure, and distance.

Apple does not appear to have made any changes to the data that is used for the Weather app, despite complaints of its inaccuracy following the incorporation of the Dark Sky app.

It all sounds very nice, however data inaccuracy is the real problem with the weather app and that's why I've stopped using it as my main wheather, nothing has changed that in IOS 17 😡

Hopefully they improve its actual function and accuracy. It has been horrendous for say the last 2 months in my area. Example: 0% chance of rain and it’s pouring outside
Mine has been abysmal too. I swear it was never as bad as it has been the last few months. I've been burned by it too many times and switched to Hello Weather.

Does it show the rainfall for the previous day? Because that’s what I want the most. I always forget to look at it before bed to know if I need to water, or worse, I go to bed early and it pours before midnight and then everything is mostly dry in the morning and idk what happened.

I think imma just order myself an app connected weather station for Christmas. The airport for my town is like 20 miles south of where I live and that’s where the official reports usually come from. Trying to decide between Tempest and Netatmo.

As a person affected by seasonal allergies, I'd find it really useful if Apple would add pollen-count data, forecasts, allergen 'season' info etc. to Weather.
🤧
Could also integrate with Health for symptoms.
I have been saying this for years. Do you suppose they will ever listen to us? I would very much like for Siri to chill the pollen level in which pollens are prevalent when you ask for the weather in the summertime.

I had no problems with the Weather app not loading my designations data. I’m happy to get some adjustments.

Get your data sources reliable first. I built weather system since the 70’s and I’m happily retired in Whistler BC and the weather information served to me by this app is crap! It’s a relatively simple service. Get it right. I deleted the previous version.

Liked the moon thing and especially what was weather like from yesterday. iPadOS 17 has this too. Much better visual!

The app is nice but the weather data is so inaccurate! It’s ok to know whether it will be hot or cold but more than that is hazardous.
Is a trillion dollar company not capable of pulling regional data from regional providers and not from some US centric service that has no interest in the quality of their data??

really? for those who sleep all day and missed out on an entire day? I fail to understand the benefit of that so please educate me
Yeah, I've always wondered why so much of TV weather 'forecasts' are taken up with what the weather did today and what it's doing right now.

You guys should try out MSN Weather. I know I know but hear me out. It's the most reliable app I have used when it comes to weather. I also really like how it will tell me that it will start raining in xx minutes or rain will stop in xx minutes and is usually pretty dead on. Also tells me how close th closest thunderstrike was to my location.

I live in Scotland where having an accurate forecast can make a difference between a miserable hypothermia-inducing outdoor experience and a fun hike. So far, Apple's app has proven wholly unreliable for me, whereas Dark Sky was very accurate. Apple needs to work on accurate predictions, including updating their models but most importantly getting high-quality high-resolution data. I really don't like walking when my rain gear has wetted out and there is a trickle of stone-cold water down the back of my neck, particularly when Apple's app has predicted no rain.

Fix the app on MacOS to function like the IOS version. In the IOS version it is possible to get precipitation, humidity, clouds, etc. in the detailed view that is accessed by clicking on the Hourly Forecast. In the MacOS version none of that is available, just the temperature.

They should find an alternative source data for us in Europe. At least here in Spain the forecast is a disaster since iOS 16 and the transition from TWC to Apple Weather.

I stopped using apple weather last week after using it for 5+ years.. For a month straight, the forecast showed 50% rain for every hour of the day when there were hardly any clouds in the sky and other weather apps showed 0-10% each time.

*Laughs while seamlessly using Carrot*

Until Apple realizes that their Weather app's data needs to be consistent and accurate, they're just going to continue to add visual band aids to cover up how awful the app really is.

You can cover dog **** in glitter and sparkles but in the end, it's still dog ****...
