Precisely. I never understood the craving for car play when honestly Tesla’s system is years ahead of anything Apple offers. Car play was nice when other systems were horrible so CarPlay was nice update but with Tesla, there is simply no competition and it looks like garbage.
Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but as someone that had a Tesla, I disagree. Tesla's UI is good, probably better than most other manufacturers, but if you have an iPhone, CarPlay is the superior platform for making calls, listening to music and interacting with other apps that have driving features. From the UI to the functionality, I prefer it. If Tesla ships this update I will consider buying one again. Until then, Elon + no CarPlay is enough to keep me off the platform.

Not buying a Tesla because there is no CarPlay or Android Auto is probably one of the stupidest things I have heard recently.

As a Tesla user and a CarPlay user in another car, I don’t see the point of asking for those integrations.

Tesla’s UI is far better for me, and just in case you’ve forgotten, you are driving a car, not playing with a tablet.

I hope they never integrate those systems so they can fully concentrate on offering a better native Tesla OS.

The main goal is not to have a different OS, but to keep improving and filling the gaps where Tesla OS is weak, like phone management and messaging. They will probably become far superior to any other OS when GROK takes control of all voice commands.

Other than that, the native OS is enough. Stop asking for WhatsApp or any app notifications with 600 popups and messages — we’re driving, not playing with a screen.

Of course, this is only my opinion, but I cannot see any of those CarPlay or Android lovers explaining what those 100 killer features are that make those options so much better.

I’m not going to give you 100, but here are a few from my POV.

iMessage - I’m in a ton of group chats. I currently can’t respond to them when I’m driving. This alone is worth it for me.

Music - the Tesla implementation is slow and way worse than the native app. I’ll take Tesla’s implementation over Bluetooth streaming, but would much prefer CarPlay.

Overcast, MLB - no native Tesla apps do have to Bluetooth stream currently. Would be much better if I could control from the screen vs having to look down at phone.

ChatGPT - my Tesla doesn’t support Grok (and I wouldn’t use it even if it did)

ChargePoint / Plugshare - less of an issue now that Tesla can show some third party chargers in navigation, but it misses a lot of them.

Maps/Waze/ABRP - I agree the Tesla navigation is really good, but it’s not perfect.

In my opinion, there’s no reason they couldn’t offer CarPlay/Android Auto as an app. Then those who want to use it can, and those who don’t can ignore it. Win win!

Focus on driving - you can always respond when you're stationary and safe.

I like it better than CarPlay app, less than the iPhone/Mac app. It's slower true, but I think it offers better experience on the UI vs CarPlay Music app.

True. Never need another Nav app as it's almost perfect but could be better in some scenarios.

I can push a button on the wheel and speaking my response easily without taking my eyes off the road. I do it with single messages all the time. But I can't with group messages.

And that's before we get to the fact that I frequently use FSD. If the car is driving myself and I'm just monitoring there should be no issue with speaking responses to messages that come in.

Cool story bro.

Sometimes I just want to use Waze but it will be nice to have the option of CarPlay.

I’m okay with Apple music and Sirius xm on the native Tesla display. But options are good.

As a model 3 owner I like the Tesla UI a lot. Let's be honest, compared to any other car maker's UI it's miles ahead. But would it be awesome to have carplay added as a feature? HELL YES! The only complaint I have with my model 3's display software is not having the level of phone integration that carplay or android auto comes with.

It's April now... I hope Tesla and Apple play nice and it is released in an update very soon.

I learned recently that Apple Music in my Model Y is using the Tesla app interface
one thing that annoys me in the Tesla is that choosing a song, album, playlist or artist there’s no alphabetical list down the side of the screen
so if it starts with o, you scroll and scroll
in my spouse’s Fiat it’s Carplay, so much easier
it looks better too

somewhere online I saw a suggestion that this will be a standalone announcement when it comes
maybe Tim and Elon in the front of a Cybertruck

Did they mention a price?
I can’t see Tesla offering this for free. Not much of an incentive to pay for premium other than certain maps.

As I have said before, it would be nice to get confirmation that the code for this exists in a firmware teardown (like we have gotten for basically all the new features). I am not sure they add CP outside of a spring/winter update. It seems like they have been saving big things for them.

You mean putting it behind a subscription, or having folks pay for the update?

A). I wonder if this will under a paywall
B). will this apply to pre 2020/2021 model? I feel like my 2019 will be left out. 🙁
C). does this mean the audio will be link via wifi?

I think Musk has given up on 1999 models (like mine). I wouldn’t expect any new functionality.

Doubtful
Likely for AMD MCU Only
That is unclear, it should be wireless CP as the only data port in newer Teslas is in the glovebox (as far as I know).
