Apple's smart home hub will likely launch in 2026, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

HomePod with a screen (concept)

In a report last week, Gurman said that Apple originally planned to announce the home hub in March this year, but he said that the device was delayed indefinitely due to its reliance on the personalized Siri features that were postponed.

In that report, he said the home hub may now arrive in the first half of next year.

Gurman revealed another related reason for the delay in his Power On newsletter today. Specifically, he said that the home hub is dependent on a new version of App Intents, which would allow Siri to more precisely control apps via voice commands. That is something that is also held up, and the home hub is in a holding pattern as a result.

Often referred to as a HomePod with a screen, Apple's home hub is rumored to feature a 6-inch to 7-inch square display, and an A18 chip for Apple Intelligence support. The device can reportedly be attached to a speaker base, or mounted on a wall, and it would allow users to control smart home accessories, make FaceTime video calls, and more. It might even double as a home security system with an optional Apple-designed smart home camera.

In March, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that a HomePod with a screen would enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025. However, given the personalized Siri features have yet to launch, it is unclear if that timeframe remains accurate.

Imagine paying someone $12 to state the obvious.

I'm led to believe Apple will release a new iPhone.
I expect it to release near fall.
My guess is that the next generation A-series chip will be more powerful.
An new iPad is in the works.

Clearly he needs the money, hence you can read this nonsense for just $2 initially.

Sounds like it'll be awhile in that case.

Siri "precisely controlling" anything at all, reliably, feels like it is a ways off.

Another device? Can’t my iPad Pro just be my home hub?
Your Apple TV can be your hub. Has more than enough computing resources today. And yes, two ways to control from the iPad. The HoneKit App and control panel. I like the control panel. Plus your watch also has the HomeKit App simplified that offers control. Today, no need for a fixed hub. In the future maybe.

Seems like a device that no one really needs and I recall similar devices back in the 1980’s and nobody wanted them either. How’s this much different than the low cost Alexis device? So it has a screen, yeah. I am supposed to stand if front of to FaceTime someone? Seems lame.

It's the sort of device I might have purchased for my senior relatives so they could see Apple Photos (uploaded remotely by family members), do FT calls, see the calendar and weather and maybe listen to streaming radio/music.

But ... Apple is taking so bloody long to do anything, they legitimately may both be dead before this thing comes out it seems like.

Seriously, have we noticed how unable to execute well and in a timely fashion Apple is anymore?

Marrying an iPad to a HomePod shouldn't be taking years and years and years.

My kid is using my iPad Pro to play Roblox. How can my other kid, who doesn't have a device of their own (and won't until their mom says they're old enough, access their to-do list and emails. Answer: they can't. There has to be a home hub that stays where it belongs and doesn't get primarily used for other things!

Of course, I can still use my iPad or iPhone or Apple Watch or Apple Vision Pro or Apple Watch to access the Home Hub, when those are more convenient. But it's easier to give the dog sitter (who uses Android devices) limited access to the Home Hub for the functions they need.

Don't worry about your senior relatives dying. There are always more senior relatives in the pipeline, until it's time for you to be someone's senior relative!

Yes .. maybe by the time I'm old and need a Hub, Apple will have actually released one.
