The cynic could also say that Apple only allowed iPads to be hubs so they could sell more iPads; iPhones are technically capable as well.Of course it’s technically capable. For a brief while Apple allowed iPads to be home hubs. Then suddenly they took that function away from iPads. The cynic in me knows it was in order to sell an upcoming device.
Apple TVs, especially used Apple TVs, are significantly less expensive than what a home pod with a screen will cost and they can be hubs. If Apple were only trying to sell the new device then only it could be a hub.
