My question is, does anyone really care?
Seriously, who was asking for this device, exactly? What is the point of it? It would be one thing if Echo Shows were flying off the shelves, or there was a huge 3rd Party market for speaker stands made for the iPad. Neither of these are true though, so why would Apple be wasting time and resources on an admittedly niche product instead of tightening up their current line?

I remember early last decade how we used to hear about next year’s products, but that’s it.

Nowadays, we hear about what’s coming for the rest of the decade (all those wearable devices, for instance) and they always seem to get inevitably delayed.

The iPhone foldable, for example, not coming next year wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Seems like a device that no one really needs and I recall similar devices back in the 1980’s and nobody wanted them either. How’s this much different than the low cost Alexis device? So it has a screen, yeah. I am supposed to stand if front of to FaceTime someone? Seems lame.
Someday the articulating arm will keep the screen pointing towards you. Then later it will follow you around the house. The current method of holding a device in your hands to make a FaceTime call will seem like something that belongs in a museum.

Going in circles or crashing into the nearest wall seems more likely. ;)
You underestimate Tim Cook, he will build in a 'return to daddy' function.
The pesistence of 'stubidity' I've seen from Siri was released, are nothing else then amazing.

I disagree with people assuming rumors as fact.
We know for a fact that Apple has been working on something along those lines, and the designation strongly suggests that it was planned to launch not too far off with the A18. Given the “intelligent Siri” delay that became factual since, it’s hard to imagine that such a device would not be delayed as well as a consequence. It therefore makes sense to put a high credence in that rumor.

You disagree with the article I take it.

Why do you think the Hub isn't out yet?

There can be at least a couple of dozen reasons. I'll go with it isn't ready yet.

Rumors are nothing to get worked up about. Planet Earth will again rotate into the Sun's rays tomorrow morning. And Apple's 1+ Billion active and repeat customers will continue to delighted purchasing Apple products.

Totally agree!

All good to still discuss rumors and be frustrated it's taking so long, though, right?

As I stated earlier in the thread, I have a great use case for this thing and would have loved to have it already ... but my prospective users are timing out with dementia and Apple taking so long is bumming me out big time here.

Fact... LOL

All you know is Apple is working on something, you dont know what or when it was supposed to be released.

I think one valid point is that Apple probably doesn’t want mobile devices to be able to serve as home hubs that people can mindlessly take with them and then have home automations break unexpectedly.
Again Apple being the nanny instead of the innovator and educating its users.
