Wow... I originally wanted the Silver, but it wasn’t available. I actually like the Space Gray now, but I hope it doesn’t become like that for a while.

Wow, I did see the tons of scratches of the demo at Best Buy (they only had silver on display) Figured that would be the result of tons of people trying it out and fiddling placing it back to the lightning dock. That SG coating is a mess though..I expect that...but thats bad. Glad I bought a wireless charger, but I will sometimes place it on my old dock that connects to my Mac to quickly download the photos, videos I took. Hmm.

I gave away my  Lightning Dock when I got the X because, even though I can polish the silver version, I’m tired of how hard it is to dock a phone without scratching the bottom. I’m very adept at handling mechanical stuff like this, but have given up on the design.

The Silver clearly hides it better as there is not an actual coating to come off but keep in mind those demo models are always roughed up. Sometimes I feel like people test the durability on the in store displays because its not actually theirs but any normal user would not treat their actual phones that way so no need to worry.

Silver hides everything better than black just like on a car. Since the iphone x has a full screen and no black or white top and bottom bezels i choose the silver . All my previous iphones have been space grey.

That's likely true, but over time, we will find out how durable the physical paper deposition coating actually is on the space gray. I'm sure it will hold fine for many, but it still too early to tell with only three weeks of a release. I'm curious to know after a years worth of use, how does the space gray bands look without a case.

A week in the store is like a year in normal use i assume

It is a store display that people have wrecked. I take care when I plug my devices in...I have had all iPhones and none of them ever had the issues that people posted about on here...the flaking black on the 5, etc. I mean Jesus, do people actually slam, scrape, and slide their phones around? that is the only way I can see stuff like this happen. I mean, I am not gentle with my phones, I use them, but I don't use them without care. I carry my X naked, in my pocket, and up until I purchased a wireless charger yesterday, I used a cable to charge it. My SP X doesn't have a scratch on it.

Pretty simple.

Agree no way to tell this early however those particular marks are from missing the dock and not everyone uses them. I am not saying it can’t chip but just when you keep slamming a phone down missing the port I wouldn’t expect it to look any different.

I've just sold me old SE and that had 2 years of being docked onto a lightning stand every night, and not every dock was a smooth insertion ;) Needless to say, not a mark on it, and the same can be said for my girlfriends gloss black phone. It's pure carelessness that causes a mess like that.

The Silver bezel scratches up real easy though with a case. It's hard to see unless you really look at it which is nice. Since I've started using it naked I haven't scratched anything further. I'll probably use a cape cod cloth to clean it up soon.

The reason I chose silver over SG is the fact that to me, one clearly looks like an iphone X, while the other is not as clear cut. SG is too incognito for my taste.

That, and at least IMO trying to get a clean, accurate placement on the docks on the tables is actually a little hard. You're doing it blind, at arm's length, at a sort of odd angle. I'm 6'-5" so perhaps people closer to the table top have an easier time. :D

More like a year of careless use, I suspect.

Exactly.

SG X looks like any other Android next to it and when the display is off. It's more consistent and uniformed but it's the safe and redundant pick. It isn't like the silver X is something I am completely in love with. The 4 & 5 series still looks better than the X.

Silver has this shine I love when I hold or look at it from an angle. I personally don't care how the rear looks like. I'm looking at it like 99% of the time at the front. That's why silver won me over again because of that stainless steel banding.

Not saying the SG looks bad by any means. For people who put it in a case, it wouldn't matter. I just think it looks alot like the jb 7 and sg 8. Silver X is something different we haven't seen since the white 3Gs.

I’ve had the same concern about the long term durability of the SG frame, but it seems every picture of a chipped SG frame is a store display model or a dropped phone. Haven’t seen any pics of SG scratches from normal use. Seems durable as long as it’s not abused.

I am very happy with iphone x wireless charging to avoid inserting cable in darkness when I go to bed later than spouse!

...however, potential lightning cable damage also quite the compelling “reason/“excuse” for those airpods I want...hmmmm!

My silver x stainless band reminds me of my original iphone 2g 4gb. I had it out the other day and it still looks and runs like new.

I like silver for some things, my MacBook Pro is silver, my iMac is Silver. Both of these have black bezels.

For my phones I like to look at a black face. My 6s Plus and 7 Plus bouh have black faces.

Even the x I forgot I bought and returned the other day had a black face..

I don't like white face phones.

Why do you all who have a silver phone or whatever color it is on the sides and back, not want to admit you have a white phone? For the most part nobody sees anything but the white.

I have space grey and it looks fine no scratches or coating off. I actually find it durable. Of course it will scratch or peel off if it's heavily abused but that's not the case for me. I am careful with my devices and none of them have scuffed like that.
