Because all of the new characters suck compared to the old ones. Wonder girl super Jedi with no training or emotions, worse than useless Phasma who is directly responsible for Death Star 3 getting blown up, worthless schizo coward Finn, emo hipster Darth Vader wannabe who gets his ass kicked by aforementioned girl. BB-8 is mildly amusing, but just a soccer ball R2. Don't get me started on Rastafarian koala Yoda-thing.
I don’t know if I can agree even though I grew up with the originals and they are therefore special to me. I think the new characters speak to the times we are in now and from what I have seen they have succeeded in capturing the attention of a new generation of kids the way the originals captured mine when I was young.
Nothing is ever going to have the magic and luster of the very first movie and seeing that world and those characters for the very first time in an era when special effects like that were a new creation. But these new characters are interesting. The originals were a mess, remember. We had the hero, Luke, who was actually pretty whiney and petulant and crushing on his own sister. That’s pretty messed up and kind of cringeworthy.
Worthless schizo coward Finn? How’s he any worse than Han Solo initially came across? In the original original,
Han shot first. I was there for that when I was 11, before it got cleaned up in later editions which I saw as an adult.
Han was more emotionally constipated than Rey, who is quite justifiably stunned by pretty much her whole life of abandonment. She’s got mad skills, but she’s been on her own a long time in a harsh world. I’m not sure, but I don’t think she’s a teenager anymore and therefore not a “girl” but an adult woman. Being an adult who grew up alone in the world, she is going to be more mature and resourceful than Luke was when we first saw him. He was under the thumb of his overprotective uncle.
She seemed to have plenty of emotions, actually. And she’s a good and loyal friend to Finn and vice versa. Yeah it happened fast but things happened fast in the originals, too.
I don’t recall anything resembling a Rastafarian koala thing. I’ll have to watch it again, I guess.
BB-8 isn’t on a par with R2, but nothing and nobody could be, because of the incredible history R2 shares with the audience through countless stories and the movies. BB-8 is still pretty cool.
I’ll have to agree about Darth Emo. He is more like the kid of Snape and any other whiney Disney Princess than what I would expect the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa to be. But look at who his idol is. Darth Vader started out as emo Anakin, whose emotional issues proved to be his undoing as a Jedi. History does repeat itself in strange ways.
The only character who throws me off a bit is Poe Dameron. He was sort of a weird mashup of Han and a Disney Princess. He has the cute dashing fighter pilot thing going on, but he acted a bit swoony being rescued by Finn and he’s got the cute sidekick like a Disney Princess. I guess not everyone can be best buds with a fierce but sentimental Wookie. I like him, though.
Well, whatever. I can’t wait to see the Porgs.
As for these cases, well my favorite case of all time was the HEK wallet case I had for my iPhone 5S. I find these cases interesting and am glad MR reported on them.
