Come on mods...this one is off track :)

A couple of them could be quite fun. They obviously hired a really stupid marketing/design/creation team that interpreted some stats and decided to go with the flow rather than try to push society in a healthier direction.

I've been sadly getting into the fashion world lately (too much work in that area I guess) and might actually take a look at that one. Heck I might even own all three just to peave some of my ultra feminist friends :)

while being ridiculous on the one side on the other side i guess quite a lot girls like to play "mama" looking at the amount of "baby" dolls being sold

Remember who is buying the doll. A 1-year old kid does not have the capacity to buy a toy that he/she wants. I can't tell you how many grandmothers I've seen that come in that get a baby doll for their 1 year old granddaughters.

Even if I suggest something gender-neutral-ish like BLOCKS or a PUZZLE, I still get the "oh, no, she's a girl, I think she wants the doll more!"

While, yes, children do like imitating what they see their parents doing, the prevalence of "girl" toys (baby doll, toy iron/ironing board, toy broom and dustpan, play kitchen) and "boy" toys (balls, building blocks, trucks) really hacks me off sometimes.

One time I had a customer who bought a Ty Girlz for her little boy because big sister had one, and he loved to play with it, and do its hair. The little boy was happy as anything to get it, but the mother was worried of what "his father would think." He was a little too young yet to do the whole online component, but he wanted the doll to play with. No biggie.

Ugh. I wish I weren't sick. Gives me too much time to stay at home and get mad about stuff.

OMG, girls happy in the role of..., well,...a nurturing mother, caring for those close to her.
What is the world coming to. The end is nigh.

Crap!

to make this not an entirely useless post:
to me, it's not so much that these games exist, it's just that they're geared toward little girls. Almost like we're conditioning them to be mothers, good cooks and seamstresses from birth. Makes me a bit uncomfortable. Any bets on the "Chemistry: Wii Edition" would have a boy on the cover?

i don't know i find a lot of games just as bad or even worse on the "male" side and yet we get rather little complaining about that (because after all there are people who like to play such games .. just like with this games)

just look at dead or alive beach volleyball games i find them offensive to men _and_ women

so now there are games geared towards little girls on top of games geared to little boys (of which exist gazillions of examples) ... sorry but i think there are much better examples to complain about in terms of lack of equality

I've been waiting for this to be brought up, I can't stand them kind of games. At least Tomb Raider had the decency to put the camera behind her. But games like that; virtual Jordon sized boobs, that puts me off a game so much. What is the appeal of virtual nakedness?

Now Samus (and on the other side, Bren McGuire). That's how you do it.

just saw this. this makes me go nuts thinking that girls can't play the same games men do. i've been playing video games since i was 5 (over 15 years of video games folks), and i play most of the big genres, i mostly like adventure/rpg stuff though, and also played with dolls, nothing wrong with that. and yes, there are some games that don't appeal to me because they are too violent/sex induced, etc that a boy my age may pick up. i'm sick of hearing that girls don't play games and instead just listen to boy bands. i was a bit weeded out amongst my female peers for my gaming, as most girls i know don't play video games, but are more interested in the more stereotypical girl stuff. just the way many female video game stars are portrayed makes me sick sometimes, and in many instances, i would choose to play a female (zelda in ssbm for one, but then again, she's a great fighter). i just wish video game makers didn't make it seem like video games were just for boys/men, as girls play them too, and my family had no problem with that.

excuse me, off to play with my gamecube.

oh and not all the boys likes their game to feature the classic "shining knight saves helpless women" which helped story writers for centuries ... how about women saving themselves for once ?
or male heroes not being displayed as 200 pound muscle giants (big muscle dude with plus points in strenght and thin woman character with plus points in agility... how often have we seen that ?)

or having some anti heroes for once ?

what i for example want more is that in shooters wrong shots/ off target etc. having more consequences etc.
my idea for game would be some police game combining the parcour elements of something like assasins creed (especially fleeing) for pursuits over roofs/through a city and other parts of the game would be more like a investigation case with role playing searching for stuff combining stuff and in some parts you would perhaps have a switch into first person made when you for example got close to the fleeing criminal so that you could place 1 or 2 shots but they might be to risky and hitting an inocent bystander might have serious consequences
you know those running after criminals stuff like in the movies
or perhaps even involving car chases where you would perhaps get 1-3 chances for getting the other car if you are close enough on the track in 2 parts or so (shooting tires) and if you miss those chances the story would evolve differently instead of a simple "mission failed" etc.
