Arrrrrgh! Really miss that remote on my MBP2011. I cannot BELIEVE this computer does not have an infrared. Really disappointing. Sorry to post about things I don't like. It is a very good computer (even though in some ways it is running like a 3-year old computer! I thought El Capitan was dialed in by now....).

Am i the only one who wants to FF a song or change the volume of music coming out of my wonderful iMac speakers? !!

Use an iPhone or iPad and the Apple Remote app. If you're using iTunes you will be able to FF, select playlists, change volume etc

If you want a dedicated device you can keep by your bedside, iPod Touches are available as low as $139.

Call me crazy but I'd say get out of bed and change the volume.
Duh, because the differences in gravity out of the bed vs in it.

You could also use chrome remote desktop.

Did the OP say that the built-in speakers on the iMac are "wonderful"?
alright let's say "sufficient" or "better than my MBP speakers"

Or you could get one of these.

Also there are remote apps for any phone that will work with your Mac.

Or if you get one of the new Apple TVs you can use its remote.

thanks!
[doublepost=1472759016][/doublepost]Will the Apple Remote app work with the iPod Touch? I wanted to get one anyway, to have a dedicated music-player before Apple makes all-things-music-as-we-know-it go away forever. Hope they come out with a bigger one this fall. I noticed there is no "iPod" link at the top of their website anymore...... !!

I can't see why it wouldn't work, it doesn't rely on any cellular features.

Funny how other countries than the US also have a currency called the dollar. :p
How much is an iMac in Zimbabwe dollars? Does the number fit on the 21" screen or do you need an iMac with 27" screen?

Wow, somebody paid $4K for an iMac!

Might not have been US$, there are lot of cheaper dollars. And an iMac with everything on the US store is $4,099 plus tax.

Wow, you actually spent 4000$ on an iMac? Their prices really go up that high?
i7 (of course)
m395x (you still hold out hope of gaming on the machine)
1TB flash (because hard drives are so 20th century)
32 GB of Apple installed memory (because you're an idiot)

total price $4099 (US, before taxes)

@ambientdaw 's actual machine is $3250 + 16 GB third party ram + taxes.

Oh, i'm sure you can spend that much, I think a Maxed out Mini is $2600 USD.

I just don't take iMacs seriously.

It's just not a mac, if isn't slow and plodding.
Well, let's face it, the iMac's primary function is to look "thinner", even though, the only time you can tell it's thinner is when you're viewing it on the side, which is not a particularly productive view.

I'd be more impressed if those thin edges didn't taper out into a "Baby Bump" at the center, but not much more.
