Wow an overwhelming response in favour of the Hi Res screen. I'm about to pull the trigger on a MBP and went to the Apple Store yesterday to check out the high res screen, but they only had it available for the 17inch model. It did look a lot sharper, and I think it's something I want.

When I was talking to the Apple guy there, he said it won't make a difference for me and is mainly for graphic design and things like that. But someone posted above about the hi res screen giving them the ability to put two documents side by side, which I think would be useful too!

Decisions, decisions...(probs go hi res though)...

I spent forever looking at them. I'm just retired so no work applications for hi res. When I had the sun shinning in the window behind me in the kitchen and I could still see my screen clearly I knew I had made the right decision. It is just a super screen IMO.

Yeah it's been a big issue for me but I'm going with the standard 1440x900.
My laptop now is 1280x800 and it looks fine. So even though it's not Hi-Res the Standard is a step up for me.

Another thing, I don't really care about the extra screen space...When I looked at the Hi Res website's font's looked a little too small for me and when I zoomed in a little it didn't look "crisp" anymore.

So technically I'm upgrading going Standard and my eyes will thank me too. :D

I was wondering if a screen with a higher resolution also affects battery life. In other words, will your Macbook last longer on a single charge with the lower resolution screen?

I'm not sure about the next thing but: isn't it more demanding for your graphics card to cope with a higer resolution? In other words, will your Macbook handle games smoother with the lower resolution than the highres one with the same settings?

Just two things I thought about while looking for possible cons with the highres screen :)

I gave my perfectly good 2008 Macbook Pro to my sister just to by a 2010 Macbook Pro with Hi Res Matte. I look back on the "standard" resolution and can't believe I was using that laptop for that long.

I personally prefer the regular resolution. Fonts are too small on high resolution. I do use an external monitor for photoshop, however.

Hi res, all the way. Get the gloss too as it just makes everything look fantastic! Not accurate at all but much better for the average joe.

Matt is great for pros, but it dose not have the same wow factor. And thats coming from a former glossy hatter, until I got my GLOSSY 27" iMac.

I almost wish the macbook pro was semi-gloss like the macbook air. I don't like the rough texture of the matt. It reminds me of my 2006 white iMac!! Too grainy !!!!!!

I'm in the same boat as the OP, I don't do design work but having two documents side by side would be a plus, will I see benefits when watching HD movies/tv on my MBP if I choose to get it?
