$1200 every year for the egotistic rich douche to have the latest and greatest, genius :apple:

"The lower end sport versions will start at $349 and presumably the standard versions, simply called Apple Watch, will receive a premium over that."

Hmmmm....

I would say the sport watch will be a premium over the standard watch, instead of the other way around. It has stronger glass, composite back and who knows what else.

So... This makes me think this guy knows NOTHING.

BOOM! Going to be super expensive Christmas this year! 4 Gold watches (2 for the kids who are 1 and 2 years old, one each for the wife and I, 4 new 128gb iPhone 6 Pluses, 4 new iPads and 2 new iMacs and 2 new MacBooks. Damn. :D

Wait a min... where did third kid come from!!

Is it solid gold or gold filled/plated?

$1200 makes sense if the watch body and band are solid 18k gold (less the special backing). If it is gold plated, the gold value is less than a dollar. If gold filled, it could be a little more.

No thanks, I'll pass. Maybe for a woman but for guys....

Plenty of men wear Gold watches.

I don't know if it's going to cost $1200 MSRP. They have ways of plating gold onto stainless steel, titanium and polished aluminum where they sputter gold with titanium nitride, which makes it bond to the metal where it's much more durable and doesn't rub off. I don't know how expensive it costs per unit for a PVD coating with 18K Gold sputtering. This process was originally done by Monte Blanc pen company.

The price will obviously be based on surface area and price per unit as they put them in a vacuum tank. It's an interesting process. They make Gold CDs (used by Mobile Fidelity and others) in a similar fashion and they have a lot of surface area and aren't that expensive to make.

I would wait until Apple announces the actual prices before people start getting bent out of shape based on speculation.

The sport watch is made from cheaper materials than the other two which is why most people think it will be the low end model.

Tim Cook's next keynote on :apple: Watch:

"Those who know the luxury watch industry say this watch should cost around $1,200. We can do better. The 18-karat yellow gold case for the :apple: Watch Edition will start at only... $1,000."

*roaring applause from the crowd*

$1200 actually seems pretty low for gold. I guess we'll see the real prices when they're announced.

Pure gold is worth US$1,231.50 per troy ounce (about 31.1 grams). Eighteen carat gold is only 75% pure. I bet that watch BODY has less than half an ounce of gold. Unless the band is also solid 18k gold, which is highly unlikely at that price.

I dig that rose gold one. I'm not a yellow gold type. Alas, if it costs 1.2k, methinks I'll be going for the standard or the sport, but with a decent band (none of that neoprene-looking stuff, something leather or metal).

If the rose gold comes in under 1k, I'll be tempted for collector's item reasons.

Well it's supposedly only 12.5mm.
Do you know anything about how thick watches usually are?

I have a manual wind mechanical watch with a power reserve complication and that is only 6.6mm thick.

The Apple Watch is so thick you can't fit it under a cuff. That's a pretty horrendous oversight for any watch collector.

True, the gold isn't that expensive. I was talking more about comparison to other watches and jewelry that tend to cost WAY more than what the raw gold costs. But if apple can keep the price down even on the gold model, bravo for them.

Really? Because I'm a guy so if by any chance some gold watch touches my skin something will happen or...? Unbelievable.

Yeah... I'm baffled. Not many guys are seen in gold watches with leather bands like the one in the pic, but a gold watch with a black and gold crown and a nice, sleek black band? Yeah. I could see that. Or a metal band with some sort of gold trim, perhaps.
