My Dad's going to love the 2018 Space Grey mini that's about to become his hand-me-down ;)

I’d just be impressed if they can make the current M1 Mac mini wake up from sleep without needing an adapter instead of the HDMI port, or get my Magic Mouse to work on it.

So frustrated with it.
This is what has kept me from replacing my 2012 Mini. I may just get an iMac to avoid these issues.

My M1 mini already does a much better job with video editing than my supposedly high-end Intel mini ever did. So I'm interested in what an M1X would do differently. I suspect there will be a greatly improved graphics processor.

So a "Mini Pro" with the M1 Mini sticking around? My uneducated guess tells me the fall releases are for the MBPs so they get the spotlight. Everything else Mac wise is early next year.
It might not even be that simple. The first thing people should suspect is any rumor with a M1X thrown out there. IMHO they will be moving to a M2 with higher memory options. It was also discussed about a larger headless M2 Mac that served as low end Mac Pro compared to the larger iMac that should also use the M2. They need to get those released after the new MBP’s are finally announced. Eventually you’ll see updated Mac Mini but in a few months I doubt it when so much has not been announced.

The Intel Mini with 32 or 64 GB (self-upgraded if you want to save some money) is the most cost effective option if you want a Mac that can run x86 VMs. Perhaps time to get another one before they are gone.

Why does Apple want to turn its 'entry level' Mac into a high end one?
Recently, Apple was selling both a base model i3-level Mini and a higher end one with an 6-core i7. The M1 Mini covers the base model and an M1x Mini will cover the top end. It’s not clear if Apple will call that top end Mini Pro or just keep the Mini name.

Sometime in the future there will be new products! These type of articles dont offer anything.
While this article doesn’t provide many details, this is the first rumor confirming that Apple will upgrade a Mini model with the M1x and not just leave it as an entry level product.

I just bought a Mac Mini. It hasn't even arrived yet. Oh well, I'll just trade in this new one on the updated model and treat myself for Christmas.

The bigger questions is, will this be based on A14 or A15?
If it is called an M1x, then probably based on the A14 core, but that doesn’t matter all that much. The A15 cores may be incrementally faster than A15 in single core processes, but overall the M1x package will be much faster. Intel Xeons are often not the fastest Intel processors in single core performance but make up for it in other ways.

"The Mac mini is used for more basic tasks like video streaming, but many people use it as a software development machine, as a server or for their video editing needs. Apple knows that, so it kept the Intel model around."

So, the Intel model Mac Mini is more powerful than the M1 version? I don't understand the meaning of this...
The top end Mini can be configured with a 6-core i7, 64GB RAM, 4 TB/USB-C ports, and can handle up to 3 displays. The initial AS chip, M1, can’t match some of those specs so they kept the Intel one around. Once they have the M1x, it should easily out perform the Intel model.

The next performance core is approximately 17% faster than firestorm.

Seems bizarre to boost the cost of their so-called entry level Mac.

That said I may go Mini next as opposed to an iMac if there are additional ports - I’ll find a decent monitor to pair with it.
Inflation and a chip shortage will definitely boost the cost. The lack of supply drives up demand and the cost of production goes up.

Hopefully this time around they support a frame buffer higher than 6016x3384 pixels.

I had to return the first iteration due to lack of support for 8K monitors.

The M chips will most likely be based on even numbered A chips, just like the A-X/Z chips. Even numbered A chips are also more frequently used in non-iOS devices.

The iPhone 13 will have an M2 processor. You heard it here first. The iPhone will be the only device left with an “A” processor if they keep leave it alone.

BREAKING NEWS: The next generation of every Apple device is expected to launch some time in the future.
yep i heard that Apple devices will get refreshed with new silicon annually for the foreseeable future.
