My own guess for the future is that the mini will grow upwards to invade the bottom end of the Mac Pro market space, and that the mac pro will turn into a rack-mount form factor.

It makes sense in that they are still selling the intel MM for those that need more than 16GB.

Assuming here the M1X will have Ram up to at least 64GB, probably more SSD options. So it means they can remove the last of Intel MMs and that is another line free of intel.

Sometime in the future there will be new products! These type of articles dont offer anything.
Exactly. It is like the old Battleship game; enough guesses later and most likely you will eventually get a hit. This kind of prediction is basically the guy saying that it is possible one day Apple will add an M1X processor to a Mac mini. It is just a guess on his part. I doubt he has any real and/or tangible evidence to back up his vague claims.

The Mac mini is used for more basic tasks like video streaming, but many people use it as a software development machine, as a server or for their video editing needs. Apple knows that, so it kept the Intel model around.
Mac mini will feature a "plexiglass" top and a magnetic power port. The new Mac mini is also rumored to feature additional ports.

Ah yes, because it is always a good idea to have easy to accidentally disconnect power on servers…

M1 iMac is entry level. And if you don’t have a display, keyboard, mouse, get an iMac it’s all included. Entry level. The unreleased big iMac is not entry level.

The M1 Mac Mini is also entry level. The high-end M1X is absolutely not.

The cheap iPad not-Pro and not-Air is also entry level.

Do you get what entry level means now?
It’s an entry level “price wise” for most people, it still does the same tasks a 24” iMac can do, except you don’t get the screen, mouse and keyboard.

The M and M-X chips will probably debut in alternate years. Product cycles should then be around 2 years moving forwards. M chips will be released at a similar time as even numbered A chips.

This is the machine I'm waiting for. Pre Covid, I was a big fan of loaded15/16" MacBook Pros for their portability/power, but since I'm editing at home exclusively, and the MBP stays in clamshell mode when connected to a bevy of large monitors, I think I'll save myself some $$$$ this time around, and go mini. Can't wait to lose the incessant fan noise as well.

I use my Intel MBP in clamshell mode and have had to replace the screen twice now due to discolouration. The Genius told me it’s due to heat, which I think is true as both times the issue was on the left side of the screen. Thank God I had AppleCare. Can’t wait for my next upgrade with Apple Silicon.

Just give it 3+ 4K video out, 64+ GB RAM option, and 8+ TB SSD option. And ideally fanless. The rest can stay the same.

Why would you want fanless though? You’d be wasting the performance capability of the chip

This is for the higher end Mac mini - which still offers Intel today.
Apple didn't offer a distinct higher end Mac Mini line. They had various configuration options of the same model. Some ready made with better options. They were still on the same motherboard and layout. Therefore the same model. They're all even called the Macmini8,1. It would be like considering $1,799 and $2,299 27" iMac different models instead of different options of the same model.

Apple simply discontinued the base config. Normally in the past when they dump the base config but keep the higher config available. They drop the price of that config to base. This time they didn't.

With 13" Intel MacBook Pros they offered two distinct models. Along with other lines offering distinct models. Even the 21.5" iMac had different model designations for the 1080p and 4K models.

While Apple's free to do what they want. I'd consider the M1X a distinct new line. If they're going to offer two different models going forward. Sort of a Mac Mini and Mac Mini Pro. With either the M1 or M1X being the actual replacement for the Intel model. Then we'll just have to wait and see if they'll continue with M2 + M2X lines or shift the M1X price down and offering an M2 at the higher price point.

People forget that Apple are still selling an Intel silicon Mac Mini with a 64GB RAM option for considerably more money than the M1 16GB option, the former which is what I imagine the M1X ‘high end’ Mini is meant to replace. I doubt that the M1X will come in at the current M1 price point (but if it did, I would 100% buy it).
