I always thought phones with a black front and a colored rear looked so ugly. For example, the white N4.

Looks nice for "budget"

I think this looks nicer than any of the other low-cost phones out there. Apple needs to get people into the "system" with lower priced options. Like a BMW 1 series. Get people hooked and vested in the Eco system, and they may stick around and buy higher quality products in the future. I think it is a needed step for Apple.

Id buy it!

Those two holes where the rocker should be? Possible sensors for volume up/down? Infra-red of sorts?

I've always liked what I've seen from the plastic phone rumors. I'm interested in how they differ from the 5 and 5S (assuming that's up next).

for me, it's the carrier contract... let's get a lower-priced version there as well

(yes, I know they need to make $ and help subsidize the cost, etc.)

I'm hoping these will be the 0 and/or $100 options for the next wave of iPhones on contract.

They look great and could allow Apple to cut support for older generations faster without costing the end user much to upgrade.

Regardless of the Apple connection, I must say....

$199 for their android version with 1.7ghz Quad core snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB ram, 16GB HDD and stock android??? That's actually very good value in anyones book.

I love it! It'll be the first iPhone I'm buying first hand :) I actually prefer a plastic case. Also don't like touching the antenna with my hands, and I think it will improve reception.

Besides this I always did prefer Apple's white plastic phase over their aluminium one.

Just think the colours are a bit too wild but the white one looks great.

In first with the 'It looks cheap. I won't buy it' post.

Personally I think it looks good.

I suppose it really depends on how it feels in the hand... :D

How do you like the new tool for changing volume?

Crumbs.. looks like I'm wrong. I really didn't think this would be a real release..

Can we expect an Apple event during August then?

I think this is such an awesome idea.

I hope Apple begins to ship an iPhone like this that is cheaper and yet capable of operating quick and smooth.

I always believed that selling old models of the iPhone was a bad idea.

For example, I know the iPad 2 is cheaper and people will buy the heck out of it, but unfortunately it gives you a terrible experience of what the iPad is truly capable of.

You miss the speed of the newest device and screen clarity.

The same goes with selling the iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 is just not capable of being a great iPhone anymore. It is not smooth and can be very sluggish at operating apps.

Even though this article does not mention this, I think replacing old model iPhones with a cheaper iPhone is one awesome move.

That way everyone can get the price they want and the performance of a great product.

When will people realize the iphone will never have a "snapdragon processor", and run andriod. Idiots

I don't think they're claiming there will be one. The very un-apple branding of "basic bear" seemed like hope that somebody (themselves) could possibly produce a clone running android.

Nokia copy?

Its the Apple Asha 501 iPhone! hahah. The 'Today' feature in io7 is similar to that of Nokia too, funny, maybe Apple feels Nokia is a threat and not Android?

Maybe removable covers too? aka Asha 501?

If this is true I hope the build quality still beats out the galaxy series and such when it comes to drop tests :)

Apple is still 'selling' the iPhone 4. It will be available days before iOS 7 launches. I'd hate to be running iOS 7 on an iPhone 4 though.

At least Apple could still sell last year's model. But the model from two years ago is rapidly becoming a bad idea made worse by the demands of iOS 7. In fact iOS 7 might be partially driving this move to make a dedicated so-called cheap iPhone that has better graphics capabilities than a two year old phone.

SIM & volume??

What's with the holes on either side?

The hole on the right matches the current SIM slot but there is no slot on this part.

The holes on the right?? Where are the volume and silent buttons??

So who put a gun to Jony's head and told him to make a plastic iPhone?

Not if the budget iPhone comes out before the launch of io7 and replaces the iPhone 4.

Plastic + Apple Logo = Gold?

Plastic is plastic and by stamping Apple logo in different color does not make it precious metal.

Samsung case is replaceable and in all likelihood everyone would have wrapped it in a case....so in reality it does not really matter if the phone is made of plastic or 24 carrot gold....

Touch sensitive holes replaces physical buttons....

It tells you in the original post.

Physical features on the device appear to be as expected, although the rear shell has only pinholes where the power and volume buttons and SIM card slot should be, suggesting that the leaked shell had not yet had holes for those features punched out during production.
