Very smart: design a cheap new Android phone (see 'one more thing' at the end) and than spread a bunch of rumours on the design of a future iPhone.

Pretty sure they will be selling a bunch of their android phones..

What I don't get is why MacRumors doesn't take a more critical stand at this?

So who put a gun to Jony's head and told him to make a plastic iPhone?

He's made them before. :p

This does look like a knock off of the Nokia Lumia. Unoriginal and unattractive, IMO.

Morons

Do you really thing this is the new iPhone?

The entire thing is a sales pitch to get you to buy the BasicBear.

They are showing you something that doesn't exist, with an Apple logo on it to get you excited about their supposed look-a-like product.

It looks to me that the BasicBear company just transferred the guts of an iPhone 5 into their custom plastic case.

Apple is know to not release specs about their phones to anyone until its official release (which is why you can't get cases from 3rd party manufacturers until after release, generally).

I will be very surprised if this is the actual look of the soon to be announced iPhone.

Not if the budget iPhone comes out before the launch of io7 and replaces the iPhone 4.

That's not going to happen, if a budget phone does launch, the flagship 5S will launch first. otherwise the media will pick up this new iPhone model as 'the new iPhone'.

Regardless of the Apple connection, I must say....

$199 for their android version with 1.7ghz Quad core snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB ram, 16GB HDD and stock android??? That's actually very good value in anyones book.

And you never would have know if they hadn't advertised it this way!
(and got MacRumours to put it on their front page..)

Apple still offers the iPhone 4 now. One would rightly expect a two or three month old phone (the uneducated buyer would see the iPhone 4 that way) as being able to run the newest OS well.

Besides, iOS 7 is likely going to launch in two to three months. I doubt we'll see this new phone before then. We are probably only two months away from Apple announcing their September event.

TechDY says their Bear will be patterned after Apple's phone. Well there's a lawsuit waiting to happen....

I do like the supposed new look. Now I want to know what the specs of this "budget iPhone" will be.

If this is the real thing, I think they're making a strange assumption. They have a white rear shell and a black face plate. They make the assumption that all the faceplates will be black, regardless of the rear shell color. Why? That's like saying all the rear shells will be white since that's all you have in your possession.

If it is indeed the real thing, it doesn't look bad at all. In fact, it looks quite nice. I would, however, like to see a better color palette available from what they're saying; especially a nice rich looking red.

i hope we are not moving back in time to first generations of iPhone look. The new ipod touch 16Gb loooks more beautiful and simple than this

Assuming the polycarbonate iPhone is real, I'm kind of doubtful we'll ever see it in the US. My guess is that this will be targeted at developing markets like China, where the iPhone lags way behind due to price. I imagine that Apple will continue to offer a low-memory version of their previous iPhone as their "low cost" option in developed nations.

I don't see it.

Crossed my mind as well. Either they meant the iPod Classic, or... they're dumb.

Disappointed by the 4" screen, unless it means they'll be bumping the 5S/6 w/e to 4.5 or so inches.

Hell, knowing Apple they'll probably brand this the iPhone 5S and the new flagship the iPhone 5S Pro

I like it. I would buy it.

I don't understand the widespread disdain for plastics. High quality plastics are awesome. The impact resistance and resilience exhibited by the right plastic is perfect for a mass market cellphone that the owner doesn't feel obliged to treat with kid gloves. Not to knock the design beauty and engineering precision of the 4's and 5’s, but their materials are just not right for the mainstream. And from a purely financial aspect, tough, resilient plastic may save Apple big dollars in AppleCare repairs and replacements? They're running a business, remember, and trying to maintain healthy margins.

Apple must already be producing millions and millions of these phones to have this many leaks, this would need to be priced at about $300 to have the big impact Apple seeks with the plastic iPhone.

If you know anything about how plastic parts like this are made, you know this is a fake. The SIM door and volume buttons or rocker would be molded in place with slides in the mold.

I don't think this is real at all. I think it's just an advert for their Android phone. If it is real, which I doubt, they are about to be sued out of existence, or apple will be changing their design.

I think it looks nice. At least it doesn't have the annoying two-tone back of the iPhone 5.

Apple's hardware designs have been pretty hit and miss for me in recent years.

For example, I wasn't really a fan of the new iPod nanos or the coloured iPod touches, but I think the new 16GB iPod touch they just released is beautiful.

In my opinion, Apple need to stick to simple designs like this one and stop over complicating things with multiple colours and two-tone designs.

"When we hold the budget iPhone in our hands, the plastic chassis does not feel cheap at all. Unlike the plastic build quality of the Samsung Galaxy phones, the plastic material used on the budget iPhone feels more sturdy."

By equating plastic and budget, Apple is trying to make a statement about Samsung's flagship phones.

"By equating plastic and budget, Apple is trying to make a statement about Samsung's flagship phones." Or, Apple is trying to distinguish its cheaper phones from its premium phones.

I have a Galaxy Epic S2 16gb phone. It doesn't feel cheap in my hands. The screen is fantastic. It has a good weight to it and it looks great. And, at $199 (1 year and 9 months ago) when I bought it, cheap would not be the word I'd use. Besides, it the phone's capabilities that count.

When you think about it how much of a phone is visible anyway. Most are in a protective case. Unless you are using the phone's apps, half of it is covered by the hand and the other half is covered by the ear and face.

People want to buy what they can afford and Apple recognizes this.
