I actually wish the 13 inch MBP would have a nicer screen. At 1200x800 it's pretty much useless for anything but websites and email. Hell, the Air has a nicer screen.

Uh, no. The Air has higher resolution and a worse color gamut and worse color accuracy.

I find the screen on the Air a major negative.

What limitations does it give you?

I see no problem with 1280x800 on 13 laptop. I am an internet entrepreneur for many years and never had a problem with 1280x800. Remember it is not about highest specs but about what you can do. I realised there are people who always need to have the best computer: like higher resolution, quicker cpu etc but they actually dont need it it.

If you are not graphic designer or video maker I really so no reason why 1280x800 should not be enough. If it is maybe I would try to find the reason somewhere else. No offense but saying "1200x800 it's pretty much useless for anything but websites and email" is absolutely BS :).

I have a Hi Res and quite like it, although the text is quite small. I would try it and see.

The Hi Res 15" has about the same text size as the 17" mbp, so if the store doesn't have 15" HR in stock, look at the 17" for a comparison.

This has been my observation. I own a 13" MBP with the 1280 by 800 screen. It is plenty adequate for a single workspace and gets the job done.

When I'm in school though. It's mediocre. When doing engineering spreadsheets, my professors are extremely particular. During class, I use my MBP to work on with the screen full of Excel, half of the 24" PC monitor for their directions, and half of the monitor for a PDF with the equations I'm typing into my spreadsheet.

When I'm home, I'm using a 32" 1080P TV as an external monitor to do the same thing. The extra screen real estate makes me much more efficient. Rather than jumping back and forth between windows like the other students, I'm able to work almost 50% faster.

Now I'm looking for either a HR 15" MBP or 17" MBP. The size may not be as convenient, but the efficiency while working would more than make up for it for me. I want a 15" MBP at 1920x1200, or a 13" MBP at 1680x1050. Hopefully Apple will offer us those options soon. They may not be a popular choice for most, but if Apple can do resolution independence with the next OS it would make those resolutions a workable possibility.

I have tried this, but it is difficult to compare because even though the 17" might not be much larger than the 15" in absolute terms, it just feels so much bigger relatively speaking. I just can't imagine how it feels to have such a high resolution on a 15" for some reason. And when I'm trying it out in the store, I have difficulty trying to translate this to my day-to-day usage. It just feels different somehow. Apologies for this vague post but I see no other way of describing it.

Edit: If anyone could post a picture of their 15" high res MBP with some applications open, I would be forever grateful. :)
