What kind of acid is Johnny Ive into these days? :D

Kidding aside, I really like these mock-ups. Definitely not a phone for me since I´d like the newer features of the "pro" phone, but definitely something my teenage kids would like.

As much as I want to doubt this rumor, all these photos are in sync with what we usually see around a release date, so I'm almost positive we will see a low cost iPhone. I just can't believe apple is really doing this. I can totally see them losing a lot of sales on the premium iPhone.

The people that would have bought the iPhone 5S still will. This will just take back some of the sales they were losing to Android over price point. A lot of people will easily opt for the brand new free-on-contract device over the three year old free-on-contract iPhone 4.

The thing is, it was first, now its slipping further whilst those in 3rd have come from 4th, 5th and beyond! It's not about being number one (that was always the beauty of apple, it wasn't about rankings, it was about the customer!) but with market share slipping and Apple seemingly doing nothing about it (how many iterations of the Galaxy 4S have we seen in recent months, compared to nothing from the Apple camp!), it could be too little too late as the likes of Samsung zoom past (which to be honest, is that really such a bad thing ... the public vote with their wallet!)

Samsung has buckets of smartphones, and are on many more carriers worldwide. iPhone is not slipping, Samsung is just selling more now than they ever have. A low cost iPhone is one way Apple can try to boost sales, but personally I think its silly to compare them to Samsung at all.

We don't damn the MacBook series for not selling as well as all Dell laptops, right? (Are Dell's still a thing? I'm not up on my Windows machines.)

Anybody else thinking this could be marketed as the "iPhone 5S" (basically an iPhone 5 with the same or similar internals as today, in a plastic case) and market the improved model with better camera, faster performance, bigger battery ect as something else - perhaps the "iPhone 5X"?

Better looking than the current iPhone 5 and to be iPhone 5S. Can't wait to purchase one until the 5S disappears.

Those are the worst colour choices i think they could have picked! also they don't align with the iPod touch colours whcih IMO are perfect!

If it has the same functionality (minus the obvious processor/camera/flash) as the aluminum sibling, I'd buy it. This further reduces the cost of ownership. I fear that the screen be the same one from iPod Touch. Even in such incarnation, I still think it is worth it because of the LTE. In essence, this iPhone is the iPod Touch with a phone chip+LTE+GPS.
$400 is the sweet spot!

Wow. They are very, very pretty. Very in line with today's Apple aesthetic, good or bad. I wouldn't have one personally but I can see this being an absolute hit with the 12-18 market. Like, I can see these in Sixth Forms and colleges across the UK - personally.

Not sure I'm behind the core concept though. This is Apple giving a second rate product, contrary to a premium first rate product with lesser capable versions. I don't know if the push for "a cheap iPhone" is really out there but rereading it kinda seems plausible.

We'll see.

My problem with the "lower cost iphone" is that you have to make it cheaper to make! I mean, the plastic case, how much cheaper can it be to make than the material we already have, which has been used in one form or another for years (ie, it gets cheaper once you're tooled up and making high numbers).

Any software changes won't make it cheaper, so really apple has a low cost phone, the iphone 4s when the 5s comes along.

I'm not sure it will cannibalize anything, especially if it just takes the price point of the current iPhone 4 (free on contract, $450 unlocked) or maybe slightly lower... $399 or $349 would be a pretty big deal.

If it is only 8gb like the current cheapest iPhone, they can price it at $349 without cannibalizing the 16 gb $229 iPod Touch OR the 16gb iPhone 5 at $550 unlocked.

As for the Classic... It needs to be discontinued or updated with a lightning connector. It only makes sense.

But for some reason, a lot of people refuse to buy something that was produced a couple of years ago. The iPhone 4 isn't just low cost; it's old. There will be people who want a cheap iPhone that must be new. It doesn't really make sense because the same people would be fine buying an iMac that hasn't been refreshed for 1.5 years.

I keep hearing the words "plastic iPhone". Do we know for sure it's going the be made of plastic? Has anyone making these leaks actually confirmed that?

Wow fake, look at the last picture, the reflection is a silver colour. it's an iPhone 5

Did you even bother to read the report? It's a mockup commissioned by MacRumors to suggest what the end product might look like based on recent rumours and pics.

Imagine if Apple just leaked ideas and the rumor communities basically build the product for them.

I don't care for this design. I feel like the 3Gs was a more esthetically pleasing phone. Also felt more solid than any Samsung phone I've owned.

Rendered mockup of lower-cost plastic iPhone in white, yellow, red, and green

Everything about that sentence just seems wrong to me. At least the colors will match iOS 7. :p

Does it really matter what they look like when people will probably put them in cases anyway? The budget iPhone will look the same as the regular iPhone when it is in a case.

Not a thin... Dam that plastic shell..

Better be careful Apple, People coud start looking at these colorful phones like a kid's toy.

You can't hane both thin phone, and small price..

This almost now looks like a rainbow event .... Look at all thise colours..

.., yes people do care, otherwise they wouldn't buy iPhones in the first place. If they didn't care that much, they get Android, but now with this plastic IPhone, users can now "have their cake, and eat it too" :)

Would much rather have a plasticy Samsung S4 with a nice 5" screen than this thing. Apple is just flubbing up on so many levels these days.

to be honest , i would take any of these skittles iPhones over any crappy scratched anodized aluminum.........

I think the focus of a low cost phone is to introduce an option in markets where there are little to no subsidies available for handset purchases. So, the phone may not even be released in USA to start with.

Apple may target China and India initially to increase global distribution.

.... Ya, but i think world-wide would please Apple.. More money for them.

The smug hipsters wont know what to do with themselves when welfare bob on the street will carry one of these.
