So the light gets somewhat "diffused" in the white plastic matter... if I understand this correctly? Cause if you look at the pics above, there are only relatively small holes through the metal...

No, I thin the pics above aren't actual finished product cases. All current and past cases have that aluminum (or polycarbonate) cut out. I don't see why they would punch those holes in it, and not cut the rest out. That would do a few things 1) Make a lot of people mad. 2) Be a waste of good manufacturing time/money. 3) Lose Apple their main source of advertising.

same question here, is there going to be a right click option in the new macbooks??

Its my first mac thats why im asking:) will use bootcamp and install windows aswell, so thats why a bit nervous:eek:

Rest assured, ALL Apple notebooks have that...right button is more than a given, and you'll probably get multi-touch on all models as well, which in itself is a reason to switch...

Am I the only one who actually prefer the chiclet keyboard? Everyone seems to be very against them.
Been trying out the MBP keyboard and dont like it nearly as much as the chiclets.
Maybe you just need some time to get used to them?

I think you're right. You just need time to get used to whichever one is new to you. For instance, even though my brother's 12" PB keyboard is the same as my 15" MBP's, it felt different because my wrists wrested differently on the machine and I couldn't use it without making A MILLION mistakes. I hated it. It's just because it's not what I was used to.

Once you get used to something, it's usually what you prefer. Unless there's really some huge difference. The only thing I will miss is the little Enter button being changed to Alt/Option. I love using that little thing.

I much prefer the chicklet too, but most chicklet-lovers don't want to add to the grief of those who don't like it. Tomorrow'll be a sad day for those who loved and cherished the old MBP keyboard.

Hey, I found a better picture of that Photoshop picture in the "Invite" forum:

No, I prefer them.
At least on the wireless desktop (Bluetooth) keyboard.
It has been some time since I last typed on a notebook keyboard.

Waiting for an Air update since february... ;)

I've been using an external chiclet keyboard (previously MBP trained) for about 7months now and I still make a lot of stupid errors that I think are a result of the design of the keyboard. I think the ergonomics of the chiclet (mainly flat top keys) are a step backward, but Apple wont fix this because they are training us for the impending full size touch screen keyboard. This whole chiclet thing is just to train us for that; it's not a question of "if" just "when". You wouldn't believe how many times I've had to hit the delete key just to type this response.

Yeah, the flat top thing is something I would consider a "huge difference". The MacBook Air keys dip in more like the MBP's don't they? I think I could get used to that fairly quickly. I agree, though, the flat top keys just suck.

Why didn't you get another keyboard?
There are even some with Mac layout available, from Matias, Logitech, etc.
I mean... there is no law saying you have to purchase keyboards from Apple, right?

I like the feel of the current MBP keyboard, but it has its issues and I definitely like the chicklet, too. The MBP keyboard is spray-painted, so under heavy use and lots of finger-rubbing, the silver paint can start to wear off, giving it a cheap appearance. It is also more prone to getting dust, dirt and other junk underneath the keys than the chicklet, so after a while you have a really disgusting looking keyboard.

I so hope this is true, I like the shape of the design, I'm a fan of the chiclet keys, although I don't mind the keys on my MBP right now, and I LOVE that price point. If thats the price point, with a 200 dollar drop for students, I could easily pick that up by selling my 7 month old MBP.

Gorgeous. I'm hoping this is what it ends up looking like. The PowerBook case design has had a glorious almost-6-year reign, it's time to lay it to rest.

I feel that this pic, the one with the odd tagline, the $1799 price, and the pic are most assuredly photoshopped.

It's odd, though, because I think the other pics in the batch are assuredly genuine.

We'll see tomorrow if I'm right.

Could it be ... firewire 400??

Since I'm one of those who really don't like the fact that apple might drop there firewire 400 connection and just stick with a 800-port I've really given this a lot of thought.

First of all, 800 i not bad in anyway, but we still need 2 separate FW-ports (reasons mentioned several times earlier in this thread).

For my own reasons because i work as a video-editor and really need to be able to connect my semi-pro cameras to FW400 and at the same time have the FW800 for an external harddrive.

However, one thing that struck me was the fact that all the speculations in here have been based on the fact that the symbol for the small hole beside the two USB-ports is a vide-out symbol.

But .. what if we for a while ignore that fact and just focus on the size of the holes.

The Magsafe, Etherneth, FW800 and the two USB are without a doubt, just that!

But i took, in what might be a little bit of wishful thinking, two pictures posted here earlier and made an experiment to see if that small hole could be a FW 400 but this time in a smaller 4-pin connection.

This is what i did:

Took the picture of what is supposed to be the new MBP and then opened it in photoshop along with a picture (that someone uploaded earlier in this thread) of a whole other computer with just this kind of 4-pin FW400 (and also a e-sata and hdmi).

Then i tried (with my very small Photoshop experience) to align these to photos so they where as similar as possible in perspective, size, and so on.
I can se that they are not perfect but i think it's close enough!
Since i think we all agree that we have two USB-ports on the "spy-photo", i used this as a reference to then make some final adjustments the two pictures to make sure that they where as equal as possible.

After that i just took the ports and placed them over the holes in the MBP-photo .... and then ..... LOOK!!

The FW400 4-pin fits perfectly in the small hole!!!
(I've attached two pictures with different opacity setting in photoshop to make it easier to see how good it fits!)

I even took the e-sata port to the "covered mysterious hole" with the thought that this might the answer to what they are going to put there.

It's mutch harder to se the exact outline of this covered hole so it's hard to say if it fits perfect or not...
If it's not e-SATA it might be HDMI or as mentioned before, maybe a DisplayPort??!

But now, this theory still suffers from the fact that the video-out icon is present just above the small hole.

But what if this really is a prototype as someone said?!
Who knows who might have misplaced the symbols in the production of this??
..or even further..could this be a set of faulty produced cases and thats the reason why someone could bring them home to make hi-res photos without any problem??!

This is just an idea, and as i said a bit of wishfull thinking since i REALLY want a FW400 port! (an extra usb wouldn't hurt either.....)

Tell me what you think of this theory .. i know its a long shot, but hey... you can not deny that the 4 pin DOES match VERY, VERY good in the hole..............!!

Just one other thing...
On the pictures when the MBP lies upsides down (and you see the inside of the case) doesn't it almost look like another port at the top right corner of the picture??!! (see attached picture to see what i mean)

Since no photos that we have seen so far have shown the back or the front, could there be more to this story than we already know...??

Mysterius.......

The pictures din't come along with my previus post by some reason, but here they are!

Looks like HDMI, which would work in quite fittingly with HD rumours. (that is, the side port which could be eSata)

Now I know how we ended up with so many interpretations of things like the bible. Good grief. At least with this one we can be pretty sure the 'messiah' will be there to answer everyone's questions tomorrow!

I feel that this pic, the one with the odd tagline, the $1799 price, and the pic are most assuredly photoshopped.

It is... you can see the bottom scrollbar at the bottom of the original image that keeps getting bandied about. Nobody ever seems to notice or care about this :)

The only possibility that's real is if someone snuck a spy camera into Apple's Marketing Department, which would be quite impressive especially considering the resolution/quality which would suggest something full size and not some hidden pinhole.

Nah I'm joining that line. Loved my PB 12" keyboard, but my MBP one has put me off the exact same design, with irritating squeaky, sticky keys, and I've also been using it often with external chiclet, which I have been very much enjoying. It gives a much more satisfying sound, and is more grippy.

I've also never liked the rubber/plastic rim on the PB/MBP amd so this complete top and sides from the pics is appealing. Just as long as the edges don't cut away at one's wrists. They haven't had a nice curved edge since the clamshell iBooks!

If there's enough power in whatever comes new in 13", it might be tempting. The MBP look is getting on! I would still like to see a non-backlit-keyboard model too, that new arrangement in the F keys on the current MBPs is a pain, not leaving any room for a one tap 'show desktop' or 'all app windows'.

Well, it's 7:40am Tuesday here! I'll have to wait until I wake up tomorrow, as usual :(. At least that's a mighty fine wakeup to look forward to. It will start on the iPhone, just like now, but that sort of thing I think I'll be quick to move to look at on the bigger screen :).

Dock unprobable

The more I think about it the better this idea seems. Of course it won't be an actual iMac (ie no computer internals) but a monitor with a slot for your laptop. It might end up looking like an iMac, with the chin and all, which is probably necessary so as to provide the physical space to accommodate the laptop, as well as speakers, ports, etc...

Someone earlier asked what advantage this would be over simply connecting to a monitor. Well, one huge advantage is that you call leave all your devices connected to the dock and never have to think about unhooking and hooking them to the macbook. Just slide out and go. Just slide in and continue.

It would also mean not having to use your magsafe adaptor so you can keep it in your laptop case for travel. This alone is a big plus. I find it a pain to have to unhook the power brick and bring it with me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has accidentally forgot it at work or a friend's house. Not needing it at home will solve that problem.

Another feature would be that the dock could have so many more connection options, including all the firewire and usb you'd want.

And the dock's built in speakers would likely be a lot better than the MB or MBP speakers and would be enough for some people not to buy new ones, thus eliminating the need for more speakers and more clutter.

The docking station seems to tie together some of the rumors and pictures so far and to me it makes a lot of sense. My only concern would be heat dissipation and the potential for the screen to become damaged or warped because of the heat and from being in clamshell mode all the time. But I'm sure the engineers would have worked that out.

I like this idea and I hope it works out.

You know what troubles me?

Ok, the Dock is a GREAT idea, but, besides the heat, if apple gives us 5 or 7 different sizes/port configurations (MB vs MBP), does it mean there would be 5 or 7 different docks?
