guys the easiest implementation for this is simple and the starting tool is already there ( the magnifying glass)
what you would need is a glowing/translucent button that pops up on the side ( there would be a setting to determine if the menu pops up on the left or right side, depending if you are left or right handed) For our example lets use the right handed setting ( menu pops up on the left side)
let me try to explain this
"how to copy"
1) hold down finger and have the magnifiying glass come up, this will help you find the starting position
2) when you hold down the magnifiying glass will come up but a small translucent menu on the left side will also come up ( select or paste). You would choose the select option with left hand ( multi touch is key) . This will keep the starting place locked where you want it to be.
3) Now you can move the screen around touching different points, this will determine what is selected, either a word, or an entire document can be selected in this fashion. The key is that once something is selected the select button now turns into the copy button
4) when you are done you simply press copy and the small menu disappears and your text is selected
5) How to paste
Simply hold down your thumb again, and bring back the side menu. This time using your left hand select paste.. and you are done
Pretty simple no ?
For things such as hotlinks in safari, holding down a link will cause the gray box to appear (as usual) but now the options will be either to copy or cancel
For regular text on a web page it would be the same format as before
Basically the "copy/paste/cancel/select" menu is intelligent, it only shows you the options that make sense
