Lightning is the connector and USB is the protocol... to begin with.

So you (he) can't even compare these two, because it makes no sense.

Also - is USB really that bad for the end user? I mean, when did you experience any actual issues with using USB devices? Surely I remember some restarts and BSODs in the early days of USB on Windows, but can't remember any issues in the last decade or so (at least no issues on my MacBooks).
I remember only when ISB devices literally breaks at the connector side. This this have only happened with micro and mini USB.

Never with the protocols, the storage medium or my computer.

Can’t remember any problems as long as I have lived

Sadly, I've had even my MacBook Air die when trying to copy large amounts of files to a usb disk. Around 10GB or so it craps out. Even a recent usb disk with the usb2/usb3 connector option, so not some lame usb 1.1 device. Always had issues with USB when using it for something "real", other than a 5v lightbulb. Small sticks and small files usually are ok. Big storage disks? Nah. My black MacBook did the same, and my Linux hairs before that, and Windows PC before that. Every one of 'em. Always unreliable, USB is. Always something.

Too bad FireWire never had a fair chance, but no one wanted to pay for good stuff (world is too cheap and average folk don't understand it anyway). VHS vs. Betamax again 😁

USB is what we got, tho. Well.. I don't. Y'all enjoy it tho. My tears won't be added to that pot (anymore).
You are describing a reality I have never experienced or heard of. You are the first.

Have have multiple USB disks where I transfer hundreds of GB at a time.

What do you even mean they crap out at 10GB? Or at anything real?

Broken Lightning cable/port is more unreliable as you try to have the correct spot to charge than I have ever had with the protocol itself

You're not the first I've heard describe that utopia. I've never had anything USB be remotely that reliable. Even had a WD MyBook on a Linux server that was unstable. Sure folks will blame WD.. "well of course, you should use FooBrands!". Yeah yeah. Whatever.

I am envious, tho, of your successes. Nice

I got a 4TB SomethingSomething USB disk attached to an old Mac mini right now. It's been holding up ok. It still occasionally craps out. Not as often as it did when attached to my MacBook Air, tho. Gah, it constantly failed. Couldn't copy ISOs to it. Moved it to my mini, shared it out via CIFS, then copied to it. Still died. Only success was to use scp to transfer it from my MacBook Air to the mini and have the mini write it to disk natively.

🤷🏻‍♂️

the latest code seems like it works on android aside from they won't show notifications. will show your lock screen widgets and date and time etc

That would really suck. The main appeal of the AoD is that you can see what you've missed just by glancing over your phone screen. If Apple do not get that, they simply did not get the point.

I mean widgets are cool as well, but it's usually not something so important you have to really see on your display at all times. On the other hand - missed call or message is something, you really want to see at first look, right? (it is especially important for us, who do not wear any smart watch)

I'm guessing maybe that is why they limit us to one row of widgets, to leave room for the calls messages emails and hopefully maybe some other apps you can choose to see if you have any new notifications

That would totally make sense. Hell, even some "notification dot" like on Apple Watch would be enough for me. Just to know whether to grab and check the phone or whether you can leave it be because there's nothing requiring your attention.

Anyway, it's crazy we've to pray for this feature to come in iPhone finally. Today I watched some YT video about Nokia phones, which reminded me, that Nokia had AOD with AMOLED already in 2010 in Nokia N8 with Symbian OS... And yeah, it could show time, battery charge, icon of apps with unread notifications and things like weather - yet Apple will get incredible applause if they release it at the end of 2022...

It’s crazy. And it has nothing to do with battery life. It’s just shear laziness and wanting to hold out features to get the public to buy new phones with “exclusive” features. It’s one of the reasons that has contributed to me considering switching to android. I need the flexibility and pro features android offers. I have zero idea why apple engineers can’t provide these same features behind a “developer” or “pro” mode.
