hold at ups for pickup...

I picked up my ipad2 from the local FedEx facility before it was loaded on to the truck. There was never an attempt to deliver.

You guys are all partially correct.

Regularly UPS needs to make at least one attempt before they can hold it for you.

However, there is now a new option called UPS My Choice which allows you to have it held for pickup prior to the delivery attempt. Once you register for My Choice, it takes 90 minutes for your account to update and then you can request these changes. Make sure to have it held at the hub and not a UPS retail store since Apple does not allow that. Hope this helps. ;)

I tried doing this and the option to have it held for pick up was not allowed. I then called UPS and they said that for apple products only the shipper can change whether the package is held at the UPS service center for pick up.

Apparently they stick to the "at least one delivery attempt" for apple products

I jut called UPS task them this exact question as the UPS service here in Hawaii has given me so Manu headaches I refuse to use them. Obviously Apple gave us no choice in the matter this time around. Here is what I learned:

1) Per UPS rep, all iPhone deliveriess are being conducted under rules from each Carrier (ATT VZW SPT), and each carrier gas set up rules that UPS must follow.

2) ATT will not allow you to hold the package at the facility.

3) For ATT customers, UPS will make 3 attempts to deliver the package, and after the third unsuccessful attempt they will return the package to the sender.

4) END of day for UPS Is 7 PM OR until the truck is empty. They start at 9 AM delivering packages.

Now, idk about everyone else, but this blows. I have had a total of 5 packages that were 'delivered' by UPS but no package was received. Looms like on Friday I will have to camp out on my front lawn to make sure the truck gets the address right as I am extremely worried they will **** up again.

On the otherhand, I have NEVER had trouble with UPS in the lower (or in my case UPPER) 48 when I lived there (WA,WI). So many things here in Hawaii are ass backwards that UPS must also fall into that category. Let's hope UPS doesn't drop the ball.

I have UPS My Choice, and I can have them hold it for pickup. Then I can pick it up on Monday. NOT on Friday. So it really won't help.

All of this could have been avoided if Apple would have allowed in-store pickup of reserved iPhones.

Home delivery is just a pain in the ass when you work a 9-5.

Have your phone delivered to work. Problem solved.

I changed my ATT billing address to my work the day before I pre-ordered. I changed it back to my home address the day after.
