That's is a good question. I know Mac/MBP's have international warranty as I purchased a MBP from Korea (South) and brought it with me to the U.S. I had a fan issue and Apple Store genius fixed it for free as it was still under warranty.

AFAIK, only the iPhone are country specific so if purchased in U.S, you have no warranty in UK, vice versa. I don't see on the iPhone apple care that states any global repair coverage.

Yea if Apple says a U.S. purchased warranty is not valid abroad then try to buy the warranty when you get back to the UK either at an Apple Store or online.

With the Apple Watch I think you have up to 60 days from your date or purchase to add the warranty ,then again I dont know if you get the same 60 days in other countries. I also dont know if they'll have a problem selling you the warranty in the U.K. for a watch purchased in the U.S. but I feel they shouldn't.

I remember someone saying on here that a third party insurer is contracted to take care of the Apple Care insurance in the U.K. which is different than in the U.S. so I dont know how that would work but if not then try what I just said.

Isn't the UK warranty two years? U.S. Is only one.
 
I thought Europe had a standard 2 year limited warranty, while in the US is was one year.

I thought it was EU 'law'.

You are correct that Europe standard is 2 year limited warranty. U.S is 1 year, but purchasing apple care + extends to 2 years.
 
Chatted on Apple Store chat UK today. Asked and said it was an international warranty but I couldn't buy Applecare+ in the UK.

Also said couldn't guarantee if needed a repair that it may need to be sent to US. I said understand that the iPhone may have different parts, but the watch will be the same bits all over world.

Said also as its a US watch, may not work with a UK iPhone. Don't believe this surely?

Apple has the same 1-year standard warranty in the UK as it does in the U.S.

Apple Care + (additional coverage) if purchased has the same 2 year warranty in the U.K. as in the U.S.

Outside of what Apple offers, from my understanding, in the EU there is a consumer law that requires the seller of your apple product (which may not be Apple) to fix a defective product anywhere from 2 years in some countries to 5 or 6 in others BUT from what I've heard that doesn't work well at all in practice because you have to prove that your item was defective when you bought it which is pretty difficult. Most people are gonna recognize an already defective item before their standard 1 year Apple warranty expires anyway.

So in that case it definitely doesn't function like an Apple standard warranty where they'll fix it if it fails on its' own whenever within that warranty period. You also gotta remember that EU law falls on the responsibility of the seller and if you didn't buy it an Apple Store then they are not the seller. On top of that, like I said you have to somehow prove it was already defective WHEN you bought it. Alot of people have reported being out of luck with a broken Apple product in the U.K. once their standard Apple warranty runs out.

That law also definitely doesn't cover the two accidental damage repairs you would get if you purchased Apple Care +.

The 2 year warranty isn't Apple's Warranty though. In the UK the warranty Apple gives you is the same as in the U.S. It's the same 1 year.

Outside of Apple the EU has a general consumer law warranty that has a minimum of 2 years that falls on whoever sold you the product BUT you also have to prove ( at least in the UK from what I heard) that whatever defect you have in your product existed at the time of purchase which is pretty difficult.

I think it should just be made clear that the "2 year warranty" we're speaking of isn't Apple's own warranty. Whether the UK or US. the Apple warranty is the same under 1 year. The EU consumer law we're speaking of has no association with Apple and is MUCH more limited than pretty much any manufacturer warranty. I really dont even like calling it a warranty if it's true that you have to prove the item was defective at point of sale which is what alot of people in the U.K. have told me.

Is the Orlando stores classed as big stores then please?

Also as my Apple ID and sign in for the store is in UK, how do I go about reserving in a US store? Can you from web store online?

As I say we'll only be shopping for the 1 day so rather than walk in would rather know it's there ready in case.

There are 5 stores within a couple hours drive of Orlando. 3 in Orlando area and 2 in Tampa. A lot to see in both areas, check which one has it on the shopping day and make a trip of it. Certainly you will have a rental car, you will need one to vacation in Florida.

Won't have a car, never have, buses are fine for what we do, so will only be to one of the Malls millennia or Florida one.

That limits your choices of a number of things - not only Apple Stores. I would imagine the Millenia would be bigger, but I am more familiar with the Tampa Bay area. Good Luck.

They said I could get applecare+ for the watch when back in UK to, not sure wether to though, is it worth getting do you think?

Glad you were able to purchase one! Hope you enjoyed your trip across the pond. I think AppleCare+ is a personal choice, I have it on all my Apple products but have never needed to use it.

Congrats on the watch, I think applecare+ is needed on a gen1 product that you may crack the screen. For 49 to 69 (depending on the model), its a no brainer.

Maybe it is your right, it's a sport so £49. Have you got it? Specifically as your worried on screen crack?

Although a gen1 product, I don't think the watch will be a yearly update as iPhones are, I think they cost of them and the straps etc, I couldn't see many people jumping on an upgrade everytime.

Still not sure on the watch, only used a bit as can't really use for work so it's been off more than on currently. Had mess on, but not fully convinced yet.
 
I have the sport space gray and I'm not worried about anything per se but rather if something happens, I'll be able to get it exchanged.
