I stopped by AT&T right before dinner since it was right next door. Basically just wanted to check out the new home button.

I don't like it at all. The trackpad in the new MacBooks feels almost the same as the old trackpad, but this feels nothing like the old home button.
Things I didn't like at first:
Bourban
Beer
Cigars
Naps
Girls
Did I mention Bourban?

After a while, it will feel normal.

I like it, switching between the 7 and 6 it's night and day, the 6 feels so much more laborious to press. I've always felt that one of the iPhone's biggest flaws is the transition between the use of taps on the touchscreen, then such a hard press on the button, this makes the whole process less jarring!

I was hoping it wasn't true, not kidding. Shocking to see in person. I didn't want to ruin the moment for those standing in line. I just kept circling around the display table. Jk

I also stopped in at the verizon store and they only had the 7 plus model out which made the experience of testing out the home button even more odd.

I fully expected to dislike it as I'm a fan of good buttons and real feedback, but it's surprisingly good. I feel like none of the review sites gave it the credit it deserves. It's way faster to respond to many actions.

I tried it in store today and thought it was awful. I'm sure I'd get used to it in time, but those three settings aren't really that different and didn't make it feel like a real button at all.

i fully expected to hate it as all the reviews about it were so negative. but like others have said, it took about 2 mins to get used to it. i don't even think about it now and i've been using it less than 24 hours. very quick to adapt to it.

I love it! I think it's a huge advancement over the mechanical button. It also has a very satisfying feel to it.

Initially, I was less than impressed or sold on the new "button".

However, like many others, after a few hours it is the new normal. I like it quite a bit more than my first impressions

I love it. It has solid, quality feel to it.

In one of the Jonny ive interviews, there was a general description of the testing process: when Apple builds a new device or feature, the designers and engineers set it aside. They use it and refine it until it feels better than what it's replacing or intuitive if it is new.

I have personally found this to be true myself. New features or form factors feel odd at first, then natural, then indispensable. This process, to me, is what sets aside apple devices from competitors which simply don't have the same refined, holistic feel.

Anyway, I have the haptic set at three and I love it. I also love the haptic effects for drop downs, the control center, etc.

its not, nothing moves. When you "click" it, theres a vibration that fools you into thinking you clicked it.
That was my way of saying I think they did a great job. I have no issue with it. I like it. Feels good. No problem for me. Have not tested my snowboard gloves with it. But people have been saying something about some tactile gloves work with it and others don't. You still can't unlock it with a feeler glove on. You need the fingerprint. Really all I would do is control center up and control music so I don't think the glove thing is a big deal.

yup I love the home button now. Very happy they got rid of the garbage loose clicky button

Haven't tried the button, but I thought Phil's using the iPod click wheel as an analogy wasn't the best call. Nothing ever felt as good as the original iPod dial. I understand why they made the change, but the feeling was never the same.

Just tried it at a Best Buy. I was quite impressed right away. It definitely felt different, but solid, predictable, and elegant. Looking forward to mid October when mine arrived.
