This still seems to be an issue.

I play a movie all is great. 5.1 channels showing as received by my Marantz receiver, and it correctly applies the DSP to give me 7.1 channels.

All hunky dory.

If I play a stereo music track straight after through home sharing I again receive 5.1 channels instead of just 2 and the receiver agains says thank you very much, here’s 7.1.

Obviously this isn’t correct, the ATV should only be sending stereo tracks and my receiver should break out the subwoofer channel through its 80hz cut off.

If I reboot the ATV, and play a stereo music track first, I get 2 channels fed from ATV to receiver and my receiver breaks out the .1 channel.

But soon as a movie is played it’s back to square one.

Interesting test completed :

Scenario A - home share played a 5.1 movie and then played a stereo audio track. ATV is incorrectly supplying 5.1 audio channels on the stereo ALAC/AAC music file.

Scenario B - home share played a 5.1 movie and then play the same music tracks through PLEX. The music files feed the correct stereo audio channels.

So it’s a home sharing issue by the looks of it.

Try turning Continuous Audio Connection feature off.
