I am getting frustrated with this. I have Home Sharing checked off and signed in on iTunes on my computer but I don't see it on my Apple TV. it keeps giving me that "Turn on Home Sharing on iTunes". I've signed off and back on and still not working.
I have the old Apple TV before the one came out with the video game playing remote. I guess its the 3rd generation. The thing is it's that once in a while it will work. Last week I was able to have Home Sharing and now it's not working.

Same here.
I've reset my computer and my Apple TV(Gen. 3) many times. I've signed out and back in on both. I just can't get it to connect any more.

Last week; it was my ATV 4K that wouldn't connect. Now it does, and my ATV 3 won't.

Same here. I've signed out and back in, I've restarted Apple TV and still nothing. It worked for me last week but not this week.

Can you see iTunes Store from both your computer and appleTV? That is needed for successful authentication.
If you have a Mac, you can use Bonjour Browser to troubleshoot the Bonjour service discovery (zeroconf networking feature that both iTunes and appleTV use to discover each other on the network).

Sorry for the stupid question but have you turned on Home Sharing in both places? Why Itunes has two places to turn on Home Sharing is beyond me. This fixed it for me.

also try rebooting your router

sometimes they get a little screwy with bonjour

iTunes must be open and running on your computer to use home sharing. If you close the program you loose access.
