HomeKit Accessories Worth Checking Out

Now go one step further and get the Eve smart plug. It’s thread enabled, so if you have a thread router (HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K gen 2, etc) then it won’t even slow down your WiFi because it creates its own network. (That’s the layman’s terms, Thread can get pretty technical if you look into it)
thanks! just discovered it this weekend. Now resisting the urge to buy new stuff.

Companies have been making glass turn opaque at a push of a button for a very long time. The first time I saw it, was about 20 years ago (in person, not some random video). But that was for commercial use, not the consumer. Car manufactures have been able to turn the windows on cars go opaque for years, Maybach was the first one.
Thats CGI. I can assure you that you have never seen it in person. it doesn't exist. Before you debate me about this, I work in the technical glass field with over 35 years of engineering and fabrication experience.

Hate to break it to you, but it is. And has been around for years.

There are also versions that are like Transitions lenses that change tint from clear to grey/smokey
These are all CGI videos. It doesn't exist. I have worked in the technical glass field for over 35 years, and hold 14 patents in this field, having worked for companies such as Corning, 3M, and several aeropspace companies. Please spend some more time doing research before basing your comments on fake videos.

No they don't. I helped engineer the windows of the Dreamliner.
For the engineers among us, what exactly are you claiming?
Is your argument
- that these sorts of "smart windows" exist (in theory) but don't change that fast?
- that they cannot be manufactured to the size of normal windows, only small airliner size?
- that they require a constant flow of current (as opposed to being either passive, or requiring a one time current switch)?
or something else?

As far as most people are concerned, what they care about is the concept of "flip a switch and the window goes opaque" and that's all. They simply do not care if this requires two sheets of glass with gel between, a single sheet of glass, AC vs DC, or any other such technical details.
Clearly Dreamliner does offer this experience, so what aspect the technology are you saying does not exist today?

Considering I have these at work, I can tell you unequivocally that they do exist. A whole slew of sliding panels that allow you to open the entire side of the room or slide them to create a glass wall. Flip a switch to switch between clear and frosted. Or maybe I am just making it up?

And CNN is making it up too: https://www.cnn.com/videos/business/2021/03/09/view-smart-glass-sageglass-tint-orig.cnn-business

And this company is just scamming people. They're using CGI AND the default iMovie theme:

Here's a cellphone video of the dimming glass on a dreamliner. The person can barely hold their phone straight, but they've gone to the trouble of CGI'ng window tint:

But everything, including my own experience, are all lies right?

You have to take a broad view of this sort of thing. One doesn't know the motives of these people. And it would be rude for me to call you a liar.

If you are using the wemo bridge definitely toss that and just link to HomeKit directly… For me I’d say the HomeKit integration is 90% reliable and at least the switch itself always works to turn on the lights for light switches replaced… One thing I have found too is that with my Hue bridge (extremely reliable) to plug that in directly to your router and not, say, through an Orbi satellite or through switches. I only mention that because I have Wemo controlling Hue stuff through HomeKit…
I’m not using hte wemo bridge, am connected directly, unfortunately. I agree with you on the Hue bridge, though — that thing is excellent, but it also really wants to be connected directly to the main router (I have a mesh network).

No they don't. I helped engineer the windows of the Dreamliner.

So, what happened? Did they change them at some point?

EDIT: Oh, they are 'dimmable'. I can't tell if the 787 actually comes with 'shades' too (Apparently they do not come with the pull-down shades). Hmm. I've only been on a brand new 737, with the really awesome custom cabin lighting, and it was really amazing. They had it timed to the sunlight outside, apparently, and it really was AMAZING! I loved it.

Well, here is a video of the wall at my workplace switching from clear to frosted. And I assure you, I don't work at Industrial Light and Magic or have any ability to CGI anything...

Oh please. This is so obviously fake. Just let it go. I'll never understand this about people on the internet. As if we don't have the ability to fact check. I'm not going to ask you to apologize. I'm just going to let your ludicrous comment and doctored images speak for themselves.
*edit* I see that you have now removed the doctored images, as they were obviously faked. Instead of lying on the internet for mysterious reasons, maybe you should focus on learning Photoshop a little better. ☹️

Dude, when you use language like this, but refuse to answer the specific engineering questions I asked you, you come across as a crazy person.
Perhaps that's the reputation you want? But if not, I think at this point you're much better off explaining your *precise points* than claiming that every person who has ever flown in a Dreamliner (of which I am one) is somehow part of some huge conspiracy.

Well, its obvious you've never been in one. I designed all of the window on it. Now maybe you would like to apologize to me. No. Forget that. I think you should apologize to everyone here. I won't be wasting more of my time on you.

I flew on a Dreamliner last month. They had the dimming window - but clearly people had been overusing them. Mine dimmed quickly but took several button presses and about 15 minutes to go clear again. It also didnt dim as dark as the one in the vid, but very very cool.

Yes it is. Google it. It looks amazing.

They use that technology in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, instead of manual shades that usually get stuck, and filthy.
I was going to point out the 787. There is a demo on the 787 web site, you can adjust them yourself! Not CGI!

I saw several 787's at Boeings plant when I worked in WA. Beautiful plane.

OK, I'll bite. Having designed that window, please explain how it APPEARS to go dim and bright on command?

Is the debate over Smart Glass being a real thing or not? I haven't seen it for myself in person, but I have known it was a thing for quite some time. My naive understanding is that it uses electricity to charge particles in the glass, thus switching it from transparent to opaque. As far as I know, there are many residential and commercial applications of this technology that already exist in the market. So it wouldn't be a surprise to me if this is demo'd in airplanes etc.

The most widely-known application are those fancy conference rooms that exist in many offices - all glass - and able to be fully transparent (typically by default), but then can enter a privacy mode (frosted glass etc) in meetings that you are not part of (or maybe you are, but they aren't).
