In regards to the energy use are you able to see trends over weeks or months? Or is it only few hours or days? Any way to save that data?

Yes, the App allows to see trends graphically over differing time spans , but if you want to do clearer analysis, you can also export the data in .csv format to your fav spreadsheet software.

Do it once a month to avoid App updates losing your data though...

The Elgato website is very representative of what you'll get, so please bear with me if I decline.
I just spent an hour discovering that changing my phone from IPhone5C to a 6 is what caused the strange message about iCloud sync.
So it's basically like setting up the App and the devices from scratch again. That could be a homekit "feature" for security purposes or something inherent to Elgato Eve, damned if I know.

That must be painful.

Looks like this technology is not really scalable. Frankly I'm not a fan of how iOS backups even work.
Backup restore should bring in All settings and customizations.
Furthermore I feel iOS user should be able to setup templates for various devices... But that's another subject. Maybe iOS 11.4
