Pretty sure Tim Cook’s legacy will be leading Apple to becoming the world’s first $1 trillion company, and then the world’s first $2 trillion company, and very likely the world’s first $3 trillion company.

The real achievement is getting there while having said half baked products out there.

I for one am excited for this. It'll be great to finally take advantage of higher audio quality.
With a less-than-higher-quality speaker like the homepod, you won't be taking advantge of anything except more bandwidth. But you'll convince yourself that it's worth streaming slower.

lol okay. is that some kind of slight where you assume people are desperate to use their homepods as some sort of replacement for audiophile equipment? of course these aren't comparable to something like a set of HTD speakers. but since we've been listening to lossy audio on them it makes me interested to hear what lossless audio sounds like through them. is that okay with you?

Yes but playback directly from Apple Music didn’t. Aka the HomePod downloading music. Not using airplay
I thought this was added back in 14.7??

Having a very similar issue with my Apple TV 4K + HomePods set up. Infuriating at times.
I had this issue a couple months ago. I had to calibrate the sound in AppleTv settings. Haven’t had an issue since

I have two original homepods running stereo and I love them. I’ve been wondering
1. can I add another pod mini or two for more surround sound?
2. is there a way to get Xbox to play through them?
3. how do you update the software?

Homepods' sync speed and delay are the biggest problem. Why would they use Airplay 2 for?

HomePod was discontinued months ago. Shame as it's a quality product. I've got two and they sound mint.
No, they introduced the second generation. It's a much lower price point, but still a totally worthless product.

You have to hand it to Amazon for successfully getting people to buy the totally worthless Echo and inspiring Google and Apple to copy it.

1. No, only virtual surround through two big HomePods.
2. Yes, eARC (beta) with Apple TV 4K (Second Gen).
3. In the Home app, press and hold on each HomePod, and scroll down to the settings.

Disagree. After the update last December or November for the OG HomePods to play Atmos on Netflix and other TV services that supported it with the AppleTV, there was a noticeable difference between Atmos and even 5.1. Would it beat a $700 Sonos Arc? No, but I would put them up against most $400 sound bars, which is how much I paid for my pair of HomePods. It does take up a lot of bandwidth, but I have a good network. It was definitely worth it. I expect a noticeable difference in music, too.

Never bought a HomePod when they were in production. Looked online to see if I could snag a "cheap" one. Haha, most go for over 300 bucks still. People are paying upwards of 500 for sealed box ones.

I'm a little surprised that the HomePod continues to be sold and get software updates. I'd think Apple would get the hint.

I feel like Tim Cook's legacy should be remembered as being Siri. She was introduced at the first keynote where Tim lead, and despite the constant evidence that she needed massive improvements, he never did and instead just kept shoving her into more places she wasn't wanted.

Maybe Tim's successor will kill Siri as their first action. Then the HomePod.

It'll be like how Steve started his second run as CEO - he just axed all the stupid distractions that Apple had on their plate and focused on the core things that Apple should do right.

If you're going to sell a product at all, make it GREAT. And if it's not great, don't bother. HomePod and Siri are both things that should never have left R&D at Apple. The Apple Watch... has potential. Apple just keeps missing the mark. It feels like they need somebody new in-charge of the Apple Watch to bring it from OK to GREAT.
Since you decided to pull out the Steve Jobs card, I seem to recall Steve Jobs being in charge of the acquisition of Siri. He even spoke about it at his last AllThingsD interview. Sooo….you wanna say Steve was the infallible almighty, but at the same time say that Siri should have never left the R&D lab?

On top of that, you are just flat out wrong about Siri. Siri has seen a steady iteration of improvements since introduction. It’s not even a comparison to todays Siri vs where she started. Tim not aware of the importance of Siri and the amount of work to be done? Well I guess a big hire, new position and title added to the senior executive team with Giannandrea sure shows that Tim doesn’t get it. (Can I stop rolling my eyes now?) Since Giannandreas hire, as someone who uses Siri on a daily basis I have seen and felt steady improvements to Siri. Let’s not forget that Siri encompasses all of Apples AI efforts, which has been on a steady cadence of improvement. On-device Siri and Live Text in iOS 15 are great current examples. There are examples of new and/or improvements to AI in every recent major release of iOS/macOS since he was hired.

But good for you, you think you can operate and manage a large and influential organization better than Tim Cook. Given that you clearly don’t understand the role of CEO, I have my doubts. But I heard Tim Cook is retiring this decade, better go on and send in your resume to the Apple board! I’m sure they’d love to have you oversee a corporation of 50,000 employees and $100s billion in annual revenue.

Or maybe it’s just cool to hate on Tim Cook on Macrumors. If your only idea of a CEO is Steve Jobs, then life is only going to keep disappointing you. Steve Jobs is sadly gone, and nobody will ever replace him. Some cocky prick with a thirst for being the “next Steve Jobs” becoming CEO of Apple would probably be the worst thing that could happen to the company. I have a feeling that’s why Steve Jobs CHOSE Tim Cook. He was right about a lot of things (including Siri), maybe he was also right about that.

HomePod mini is turning into a real killer product

I’ve got 4 dotted around the house and the sound they can produce is remarkable for such a tiny device

I'm sure he'll be remembered for the Apple Watch, AirPods and the iPad pros, along with all the enhancements he's made to the Apple ecosystem.

I have seven HomePods; four originals organized as two stereo pairs - one pair in my living room and another pair in my woodshop, a single original in my wife's studio, and two HomePod Minis.

All are superb producing music and taking Siri commands- I have zero complaints with any of them. Hat-tip to Tim Cook for developing them!
Apple added the cherry on the top with iOS 15 by allowing me to initiate playback on my Apple TV's using my HomePods. Everything else I'm happy with.

This, 100% this. I wish I could have gotten a second or even third pair of original HomePods. Don't get me wrong, the HomePods Mini sound great, but the OGs just sound... bigger.

And you're spot on with the usage. I don't know if I (or in this case, we?) don't use Siri to her full potential but anything I've ever asked her to do via my HomePods, she's done (unless there's network gremlins).

Because of the aforementioned occasional bricking-upon-update problems, I have switched “automatic updates” for HomePods off in the home app. I’d prefer to wait a bit to be sure there aren’t problems before manually initiating updates.

Here’s the kicker, though. All but one of them automatically update anyway. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
