I still believe there will be a better HomePod coming in the future. Maybe in October.
I hope so. It’s weird having HomePod mini as a product with no HomePod next to it. Imagine no iPad, just iPad mini. How is it mini with nothing to compare it to?

I know it’s wishful thinking on my part but I suspect the purpose of the HomePod mini is to get those high-volume, in-the-wild data collection points they couldn’t with the OG to level up their computational audio chops for a true successor to the OG at a slightly lower launch cost.

A boy can dream can’t he?!

everything else wifi and ethernet is and has been fine. only the homepods
If you haven’t attempted a reboot of your router because everything else seems fine, it’s still worth a shot. Every device is assigned a different address and sometimes things with a specific one can just get wonky.

Like when you can’t connect to Wi-Fi on your own router but someone visits and hops right on. Restart the router to force it to release the address it gave the HomePod and assign a new one.

I’m not saying this will likely fix your issue, just cautioning against the misleading logic of “everything else works so it’s definitely my device”. It can be a tech support trap.

Anyone else having issues with the HomePods and minis not connecting to the internet? Have reset and added back to home on all of them. No resolution.

I have seven HomePods; four originals organized as two stereo pairs - one pair in my living room and another pair in my woodshop, a single original in my wife's studio, and two HomePod Minis.

All are superb producing music and taking Siri commands- I have zero complaints with any of them. Hat-tip to Tim Cook for developing them!
I have 7 or 8 I think and 2 stereo pairs.....agree, love the HomePod....a misunderstood(and mis-marketed) product in my opinion....

Damn. Good to know it’s not just me then
From what I noticed, is that when you turn off Private address in your wifi settings that your apple devices will connect better to the wifi and will stop disconnecting.

Apple also updated their Homepod suppert page and the homepod mini doesn’t support Dolby Atmos 5.1 and Dolby Atmos 7.1.

I can only get Dolby Atmos on the OG homepod, but when I turn on Atmos my homepod mini won’t play lossless music. My guess is that the homepod mini is trying to fetch Atmos content but doesn’t support it hence that it showing it’s playing compressed audio and won’t automatically switch to lossless.

Since yesterday i have the same problem on all three homepods.

The HomePods automatically updated to 15.1 and every request to Siri resulted in an answer that she has no internet connection.

The problem was that my iPhone & iPad didn't have 15.1 installed yet. I deleted the beta profile.

To keep it short, install 15.1 on iPhone and iPad and the HomePod will work again.

This, 100% this. I wish I could have gotten a second or even third pair of original HomePods. Don't get me wrong, the HomePods Mini sound great, but the OGs just sound... bigger.

And you're spot on with the usage. I don't know if I (or in this case, we?) don't use Siri to her full potential but anything I've ever asked her to do via my HomePods, she's done (unless there's network gremlins).

Yeah same I went for Mini instead as already had one of both

HomePod mini is turning into a real killer product

I’ve got 4 dotted around the house and the sound they can produce is remarkable for such a tiny device

If they were killer products from the start, maybe we’d still have the first one available for purchase. Glad that they’re becoming more complete with stuff that we wished was there from day one.

1. No, only virtual surround through two big HomePods.
2. Yes, eARC (beta) with Apple TV 4K (Second Gen).
3. In the Home app, press and hold on each HomePod, and scroll down to the settings.
Thank you. On the home app I can never seem to get the homepods to respond? There’s always an error. They work fine but I can’t do anything with them in the home app

The Mini do not support Atmos.

* "HomePod mini doesn't support Dolby Atmos, 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound".

But perhaps for Apple Music content it will work like it does in IOS and Mac Os, where you can use any speaker or heaphone to play Atmos music tracks, and it works.
