Is this available to all iOS14 Beta 2 users? I’ve updated, but HomePod still shows 13.4.6
You probably need to be enrolled into the HomePod beta program which I believe is invitation only. Apple sends emails out to select individuals, inviting them into the AppleSeed program, which is seperate from public beta's

In the screenshot, it says you can choose your player for "music, podcasts, and audiobooks".

What are the services that support all three of these things?
Apple Music and Spotify, right?

I'm hoping Amazon Music will show up here too even though it doesn't support podcasts yet.

Podcasts? Aren’t they so 2008? Having never listened to one, they seemed something from when people downloaded to an iPod to listen while on public transit. Do people still listen to them?

Why wouldn't you want that ability?

So that way if I have a non Apple device I want to use or a friend comes over and doesn’t have an iPhone I can still use it.

It's just not convenient. "Hey John!? you want to play your playlist? Ok hold on, let me press and hold the power button. *beeeewww-buuuduuudduuudduup!* Alright, now go under settings and pair it. *blu-bloop!* Ok great. When you leave remind me to re-pair it back with my phone so I can use my HomePod normally."

These are things that W1/H1 fixed. We're better off slamming a 3.5mm headphone port back in.

Except that Apple courageously left that port off the HomePod. Bluetooth is something they can still add. Also, Bluetooth pairing isn't that hard, they could make it a Siri command.

"Hey Siri, pair with a new phone"

*tap HomePod in Bluetooth pairing options on device*

Done.

And again, it would be something no one is forcing you to use, it just makes it a better product for any household that isn't all-in on Apple.

So I’m in both iOS and HomePod beta 2 and I can’t even find home in the settings menu on my phone.

Opposed to what? Not being able to use it at all? Yea I’m sure most people are fine with the idea of clicking pair rather than not being able to use it at all. To say having Bluetooth as an option means that everything else suddenly would stop being used makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't care about all the various streaming services they're now offering, I would buy a HomePod if only they let me listen to my own darn music (using Siri). All my music is a lifetime's collection of ripped CDs. I want to be able to yell out from across the room "Hey Siri, play Bob Dylan" and have it "just work". Simply can't believe that's not an option :-(.
I have to pay for the HomePod AND some music subscription that I just don't want.

No. They are 2020 and beyond with so many choices for listeners you may actually be in a more situation where there is more quality content then time in the day.

And yes, 100s of millions of people listen to them.

Is this going to be working through multi users though?
My gf has Spotify I have Apple music

Anti-trust hearings are a hell of a drug.
If Apple thinks they can dodge regulation by pushing competitors to the brink and then acquiescing on their own terms at the last minute... then they're pretty darn clever.

Disgusting, but clever.

If SiriusXM is included I’ll buy a HomePod.

Why? Sirius XM is low quality crap like all satellite radio and grossly overpriced.

Name one thing Apple has a monopoly on. Because without that there will be no “regulation”. Plus there has always been a way for other services to use HomePods Via Airplay.

How do you not know what a huge thing Podcasts have become?

it’s the Appleseed program and it’s invitation only. I’ve been in it for many years but have not tried the HomePod betas.

That’s not accurate. You don’t need a music subscription.

I'd really like to see Google Play / YouTube Music on here, hopefully paving the way for Apple Music to be used on Google Assistant devices. I currently have Google Play Music and a bunch of Minis and Sonos speakers around my house. I'd switch to Apple Music if they ever let Google Assistant work with it.

There is zero reason for Apple to do that.

when did it ever have one??! I'd kill to be able to turn down the bass on this thing.

Yeah that’s the one thing I don’t like about the HomePod and it’s extremely annoying. I have two of the new Sonos Fives in a stereo pair right next to a stereo pair of HinePods and I’ve been using the 5’s lately because of it. I’ve actually been using Siri on the HomePods to voice control the 5’s.

Let’s add Bluetooth too.

Besides being **** Bluetooth won’t work with the DSP.

There are plenty of apps for Android to do Airplay.

SiriusXM CarPlay app is garbage. And it seems like they have zero interest in fixing it.
Just like their sound quality and everything else about them.

Hardware is already there. It uses the same Murata WiFi/Bluetooth chip found in iPhone 8 and iPhone X

It cannot be used to play music from and even if it was Bluetooth is a radio signal and won’t work with the DSP.
[automerge]1594178468[/automerge]
The W1 & H1 use Bluetooth, they just have a fancy easy way to pair up to each other, but it uses Bluetooth to stream audio from the device to your ears. No reason (that I’m aware of) they couldn’t enable it in HomePod. It already uses Bluetooth to start the initial setup process (bring phone or other iOS device close to HomePod to start and complete the setup process) The Apple ID information and WiFi information is transmitted from the phone/iOS device to HomePod via Bluetooth.

Most of that is incorrect.

I can think of a pretty good reason, and that’s to make Apple Music more available in order to get more subscribers. It’s the reason why they have an Android app and the reason why it works on Alexa devices. If they make it work on Google Assistant devices, that opens up consumer choice.

However, I think the issue right now is that it has to go both ways, with both companies allowing each other’s music service on their devices.

Over the air satellite radio audio quality is definitely not great, but their internet streaming quality is very good if you’ve never tried it.

Anti-trust hearings are a hell of a drug.

We should be grateful and happy for those hearings. Apple is clearly very worried and as a result we as consumers are benefitting from the multiple, hurried compromises Apple are finally making. 14 versions of iOS in, we are finally starting to see flexibility.

Is setting a default app support based on region? I can not find the option in beta 1 or 2. Not just for HomePod, but also selecting default browser etc.
