Apple's so-called "Smart Camera" = a Burst mode camera with some GPU-assisted processing ... nothing more, nothing less ... Apple's been working on it, and refining their implementation for many years ... they are years behind third-party camera apps, and that's why you won't see Unique & Innovative third-party camera apps recommended on the iOS App Store ... Apple thinks they can catch up, but it's NEVER gonna happen !

If Apple didn't have such a Stranglehold on App Discovery, 5-10 third-party camera apps would be the talk of the town !

This HomePod firmware is a major leak. The floodgates opened at Apple. Whose job is on the line? ;)

Intresting! this homepod firmware have so many solid leaks. Apple did it for purpose To keep hype up for iPhone 8. Five Weeks to Go :)

i think, this will be the biggest announcement for an iphone event since iphone 4
iphone 8 and ios11 will be the real biggest improvement for iphone since iphone 4

Don't you believe it. I used to work at the R&D site of a major car manufacturer. I was in a meeting with two very senior people when a person popped in to tell them that some photographers were hiding in the bushes, outside the perimeter fence by the exit ramp. They immediately ok'd it for 2 camo-covered cars to be driven out.

Yeah because that's exactly the type of thing Apple does....

Am I really going to have to look at my phone and get it to register in order to use Apple Pay. Seems like a chore.

This may have been answered, if so apologies. Why does the HomePod firmware have all this information / detail on the next iPhone? Why would fundamental code only for an iPhone be needed in the HomePod's code?
Here you go. From the article:
"The HomePod firmware contains hints about future iOS 11 functionality and the iPhone 8 because the HomePod runs a full version of iOS. The current version of iOS 11 in testing has been stripped of references to unreleased features, but Apple neglected to make the same edits to the HomePod firmware, allowing enterprising developers to dig up the company's secrets."

How is this oS revealing so many things, whats different than other OS apple makes, did someone make a mistake and published un-encrypted part of code or something ?
If the source code was encrypted how would a developer be able to work with it?

What we are seeing here is just the function calls and no the actual source code.

These are always visible otherwise developer apps would not be able to call them, but the 'source code' is what we can see which defines what exactly is done in that function.

In the other OS's Apple removes references to future product releases. So in September when apple release's iOS 11 it will have all these as well.

So basically we learned that the HOMEPOD will use facial recognition to allow us to make purchases, to recognize our children and our pets. Why is everyone up in arms about iPhone 8 when this is clearly all about the HOMEPOD? Its looking like HOMEPOD will have very similar functionality to Echo...

Edit: This seems like apple's answer to the security issues we know that Echo has.

they will follow Samsung. i still bet on it.

facial recognition and tap to wake so you do not have to use the TouchID on the back as often. only for instances like ApplePay or to unlock it after a reboot

We should wait and see how it works before counting it out. To use Apple Pay on my Watch, I have to unlock the watch (if I hadn't already) and then double tap the side button. Not one tap, but TWO entire taps. Sometimes it's such a bother that I leave my purchases on the counter and walk out of the store. Now they tell me (or at least the rumors are that they are going to tell me) I'm going to have to look at my phone?! With my FACE!!! Why does Apple have to make everything so hard?

Quite the opposite. From what's known through patents, rumors and firmaware leaks FaceID will authenticate before you're done picking up your phone, and well before you press the virtual home button to buy something. So FaceID is FASTER than TouchID. In theory.

Interesting. What if this is more about photo tagging and improved camera roll search than adjusting camera parameters to ensure ideal exposure?

While the later is fine and dandy, I'd personally benefit more from the former. As is stands today, finding images in my camera roll can (at times) be a PITA. If there were some sort of auto-tagging aspect built into the OS, that added [near] real-time generic metadata to each image I capture, that could go a long way toward making camera roll search a much better experience.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong...

Cool! It can see when I have fireworks in the room!

Question asked to learn - How does it know that you're not having a picture being used for facial recognition?

Considering I had completely forgotten the HomePod was a thing until MacRumor started posting these nuggets, I can't disagree. Gotta get that buzz going somehow.

You can use Apple Pay on Apple Watch without Touch ID. You can also use it on phones with only a passcode. The banks agreements with Apple on Apple Pay are around the implementation of tokenization, not specific authentication systems on the end device.

Ah, right. I didn't know that. My phone always prompts me to use my fingerprint when I hold it near a reader.

The gift that just keeps giving. Someone made a huge mistake at apple...

A huge mistake? Really?

You do realize that the only impact this is having is drumming up hype and excitement. So what if some code leaked a month or 2 months before the launch event.

I guarantee no heads at Apple are rolling. And it would be a team responsible for this. Not just one person.

This is almost unfair. Nothing will be a surprise next month. I should tune out, but I can’t.

Lol reading about something and actually seeing it in action are very different...

You can use your passcode.
