Reviews are mixed on HomePod. Reviewers cite Siri inadequacies and a high price point relative to other smart speakers as detractors.

Business Insider kind of always says negative things about Apple products. The title of this “round up” says HomePod is “destroyed”, but if you enter each article to read, most of them praised HomePod’s sound quality, and criticized Siri’s limitations. And all of them mentioned that the $349 HomePod sounds better than the $399 Google Home Max - you can’t assume “destroyed” at all from these reviews, but BI used it as the title.

Basically, articles from BI and Forbes are always saying that “Apple is doomed”. I’d rather read the reviews on the Verge or Wired, which normally is more critical and provides much more details about the good and the bad of these tech products in general.

I Think the HomePod will deliver with the audio, as we should all expect Apple will thoroughly test and make sure this product delivers in that area. But I agree that Siri could be problematic, but it can be improved upon software updates, as that's always an area to improve upon.

Like most Apple products, it has high quality design and excellent hardware. Unlike other products it that realm, the software and firm will continue to evolve with Apples constant improvements. Getting the hardware into people's homes will be main focus for now.

I don't see myself getting one because I live in a very small home and have a great home theater/stereo system.

My takeaway is that reviews are very good. So Siri blows. What do you expect?

If we all make enough trouble for Apple maybe they will open it to iOS development. Remember, Apple is flexible with some things, and they listen. If enough people demand it....

Which shows these reviews don’t realise this is a great sound speaker first

People just hold Alexa so highly Siri is judged on that.

If they enabled multiple timers, each of which can be created and labeled ("Hey Siri, set a 20 minute timer to check the pot roast", "Hey Siri, set an 8 minute timer to check the pasta", etc.), and supported multiple users, I think it would be "good enough" for us to start with.

I use multiple timers on my Amazon Echo in the kitchen all the time. Soon a HomePod will take its spot. I will miss the timers and hope Apple improves theirs soon.

With my Apple watch I use alarms - "set an alarm for 20 minutes to check the BBQ pit", etc. Maybe the HomePod will be able to do the same?
