HomePod Mini Cable is Non-Detachable, Ends With USB-C Connector for Use With Included 20W Power Adapter

I love the excuses of why it should be detachable, the chances of breaking the cord are virtually nil, you'd have to go out of your way to even attempt it.. The only remotely valid excuse is perhaps being able to route the cord through something to install it.. and there are slew of devices where this is true..

If it were detachable, then we'd hear complaints that its coming unplugged in some fashion....

Let me get this straight, Apple includes a charger with this but not with the expensive iphones. Hmm, I thought Apple was trying to save the environment by not shipping wall chargers since we all have so many of them?

Besides the fact that Apple will sell exponentially more phones around the world than HomePod Minis (or of any size), iPhones are much more likely to be synced with a computer, or charged in a car, or taken to an office... In other words, phones are mobile. The HomePod Mini wasn't intended to be, but I love the idea of being able to potentially put it on a 10,000 mAh battery pack and move it around within Wi-Fi range.

In any case, there was going to be a 120V step-down transformer somewhere - Apple merely put it at the receptacle rather than inside the HomePod.

It's a dealbreaker to have this tethered and not be able to carry this around on holiday, by the pool, at the skate park, for romantic picnics, near the BBQ, on the beach, on the boat (come on, all Apple fans own a boat because they can afford the premium prices..)
Going to stick with a 1/4 of a price system that you can move around.

It's not an "excuse" why it should be detachable. It's a reason. And, are you telling me you never had an Apple cable break? Because I've had a dozen break over the years.

Then plug it back in. People want short and long wires too.

Cost, I suspect.

Running off a USB power pack sounds interesting. That and an iPhone as a hotspot, Apple Music should play almost anywhere.
With that idea, the Mini should have contained a battery and been MagSafe compatible. That would have made it play Apple Music almost anywhere. Bluetooth playback capability would have made it play Apple any music anywhere. A couple of missed opportunities imo.

🤣 Apple never promoted this to be wireless or to be used outside like a Bluetooth speaker.

So, do I have to replace my whole unit if the cable is chewed on by one of my cats, or if it breaks by accident?

Would it have been terrible to make aUSB C connector in terms of cost?

Maybe it’s concern over having direct access to the HomePod. No port = no jailbreak?

Pretty sure they can opt for supply on the connector only without connected data pins.

There is no depiction of the power supply on the product page, on the images showing it from above, or the tech specs – why?

I’m so hyped for this, it’s $129CAD, but I need this for my bathroom and handing off via U1 chip is going to be amazing.

Oh now I see what their game plan is. Take the power adapter out of the iPhone box so that everyone who wants a USB-C power adapter without feeling like they're wasting their money on something that really should have been included has to also buy a HomePod Mini. Well played, Apple, but also not at all.
