[doublepost=1518135680][/doublepost]What sucks is that the Apple Hi Fi speaker back in the day was sold at $350 when it was released on Feb. 28, 2006. 12 years later, Apple makes the Home Pod but priced it exactly the same price as the Hi Fi. Come on Apple! Give us a break! They should have priced it way less.

Apple's old HiFi speaker was, well,...just a speaker.

HomePod employs technology that's far more advanced and will likely produce much better sound in many different listening environments.

HomePod is priced appropriately.

But Steve Balmer was and still is an idiot. Who in their right mind would listen to him?

I remember before the iPhone was released everyone thought it was going to be a success. Even when one of my friends was considering buying a netbook and the seller said that the iPhone will be released soon and it'd make much more sense to buy the iPhone.

And so far, reviews for the HomePod have been good. People are predicting good things for the HomePod. My point is - there are always going to be those random internet users here and there who comment otherwise. Then the product ends up being a hit and they disappear... Hmm.

New York Times said "Don't rush to buy it" in the title of their review. Not exactly positive.
That's a bit disingenuous because they were talking about the Siri features. When it came to how the speaker actually sounds even they said, and I quote:

"Apple’s speaker is certainly an impressive piece of hardware. Audiophiles will appreciate that it has a woofer with a custom amplifier and seven tweeters. The result is a speaker with a deep bass and rich treble that is loud enough to fill a large room with superb sound. HomePod makes the Amazon Echo and Google’s Home sound muffled and tinny in comparison."

It’s a lot more likely that someone could make a device that has analog input and sends audio over AirPlay instead. You can actually do this with a Raspberry Pi already.
Which is fine until 2022*, when Apple decides to lock such devices out of the ecosystem (after we've all bought half-a-dozen homepods)

* I'm speculating here.

There's beauty in simplicity. Longevity too.

I've never had to "update the firmware" on my HiFI because it doesn't have any! It's simple. It works just as well as it did 10 years ago when I first bought it.

What's disingenuous? It's the actual title of the review...I was responding to someone who said there were only enthusiastic and positive reviews, "nothing negative."
