Since installing HomePod OS 15.1 on my classic HomePods they are totally screwed up. The touch controls act wacky, they won't play when asked, and my iPhone (also on 15.1) can only play to one HomePod at a time. Everything about my HomePods is now trashed. They are worthless paperweights.

Thanks, Apple.

BTW, this is the release version of HomePod OS 15.1, not the beta. It was a mistake to install it. Screwed by Apple again!

I totally agree ! I'm getting the loud pop sound and they just randomly turn off. This is becoming huge problem .I really hope Sonos get's Siri for 3rd parties. I will be replacing my two hompods with Sonos when they do.

Same here. I can‘t control HomePod mini. My three HomePods stop working twice an hour with a loud plop.

I finally got two HomePods playing the same music by using my iPad (on iOS 14) and one of them kept cutting out throughout the night. It would stop playing music for 1-3 minutes and then start playing again.

The HomePods were very reliable until I updated them to OS 15.1. Didn’t anyone at Apple actually test this crap?

Popping and rebooting/turning off is hardware related. Just a coincidence that you are experiencing it after updating to OS 15. People have had this issue on audioOS 14 as well. It's a hardware fault.

Aw I see and no fix ? It’s funny it happened to both of my HomePods after updating to 15

I don’t get the popping on any of mine but I agree how utter crap all their software is now. HomeKit is a joke controlling through HomePods. Even playing music I will get “on it” “just a sec” and all the other garbage. Wish it was like Alexa that just says “ok”. Siri is just an embarrassment.

I just posted this before seeing the separate HomePods forums. The HomePod update for 15.1 is hot garbage

  1. Touch top to invoke Siri and it just says “Play”.
  2. Randomly blurted out at 3am “Server upgrade!”
  3. Tops feel like they are on fire.

After updating the HomePods (I have four of them) to 15.1, one of them started making clicking noises when I'd touch the + and - symbols on top and it would NOT adjust the volume. Then, suddenly, the volume would go to maximum 2-3 minutes after I was done trying raise the volume. I've also had that HomePod blurt out random comments since upgrading it to 15.1.

These HomePods were all pretty darn rock solid under OS 14. Now they are a mess. Four expensive paperweights.

ugh what to do !! Once another smart speaker gains Siri I'm switching. Hopefully it's Sonos.

Mine started playing random. then said it couldn't connect to the internet, then it could. I unplugged it waited a bit and plugged it back in. Still won't play right. Not sure if it auto updated, but from reading here, I am guessing that is the problem. I opted for one of the new mini incase the big one is screwed.

Not a happy camper / I noticed yesterday, I was listening to my iPhone 12pro and the song jumped, then static and then on something different. I stopped it and went back to the playlist I was listening to and it had been fine up to today. I am betting that Apple is screwing around with their music store or whatever.

Agreed. My shortcuts now work 1 time out of every 5 requests or so.
And when they do they take 15 seconds or more to execute. They were absolutely fine in iOS 14.
Podcasts broken.
HomeKit control is now utterly unreliable.
I really cannot believe how bad HomePodOS 15.1 is.

the update added added Lossless and Dolby Atmos . I wonder if we switched that option off would they work better? I tried and yeah it seems to be doing better, but tomorrow will tell . I did order one of those new units, I am guessing to be underwhelmed by the sound quality, but I would really like to keep the ability to enjoy my music.

Ever since I updated to 15.1 my homepod touch controls no longer work - they announce what they *should* do (e.g. pressing the + makes siri say "Increase volume", tapping the middle makes her say "Pause", etc.) but they don't actually *do* anything. Are others having this issue?

Also, the other night I swore it said something in the middle of the night, waking me up, but then figured it was a dream...but it looks like it's saying random crap at all hours of the night for other folks too. This is completely unacceptable.

Yes, it’s like Voiceover is turned on for one speaker of the stereo pair. Voiceover is off in settings.

Has anyone tried restoring their HomePod? I’ve got a stereo pair setup that don’t show up as options for me anymore for AirPlay, but still show up for me in the Home app. I’ve been hoping for another update before going thru the whole restore process again..

I have Three HomePods and all of them are experiencing this issue. Two of them are Paired and another is in a room alone. All three have been working flawlessly up until 15.1, and all three are still showing up in the Home app. None of them show up as AirPlay devices from any of our devices in our home (2 Apple TVs, 3 iPads, 2 iPhones). When I tap on the tops of all three HomePods, Siri tells me they’re unable to connect to Apple Music. Still shows the +/- on the tops, though.

I’m also seeing this in the HomePod’s settings. I only have one SSID broadcasting here for my house. Not sure what other network it’d be connecting to… I’m going to try resetting one of ‘em.

I reset one of my HomePods and received this message once it completed:

Nothing has changed on my end with our home network…

I just tried a test from my Modem to my HomePod and that failed

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m at a loss
