I am firmly in the Apple ecosystem and have no plans on leaving. I'll be ordering 2 for starters as soon as they are available.

You can't reach Siri through a soundbar. Granted, you may have another iDevice nearby; but they won't immediately cut off the audio for your voice commands, either.
That has to be one of the worst “features” of Siri!

You’re listening to music/streaming radio/whatever. You invoke Siri and the music stops. Sometimes it comes back again; more often you have to physically interact with the screen on your device to get things back to how they were.

Likewise you’re listening to music while cooking and have a timer set. The timer elapses and the music stops. Again sometimes it comes back but more often it does not.

The Alexa implementation is so much smoother (fade the music slightly, respond instantly rather than after a noticeably awkward pause, fade the music back up again.

I really think that no one at Apple actually uses Siri or surely they would fix the most glaringly obvious flaws.

Yes, a couple months will make all the difference and Apple customers aren't loyal at all. People typically switch to Android and other competitors at the first sign of a delay, software or hardware problem. Apple is doomed because of this 2 month delay.
Should I sell my AAPL stock? I suppose since AAPL is doomed. :)

LOL...you think people actually fund their 401k? This is what they do INSTEAD of funding their 401k. Buy expensive tech and new cars they can't afford. Ever notice how much people love a new car? They get rid of PERFECTLY running cars just to get a new car.

I think Apple's price point is perfect for this speaker. Y'all will see.

Yes, intelligent people fund them right out of their paycheck with their company contribution. Don't be silly. That's how they work.

People use their high credit limits to fund stupid purchases they can't afford. Also most people lease their new cars, that is why they get flipped so often.

HomePod is priced fine IF it was the main speaker in an entire family. That's my problem from the start. HomePod by itself is useless unless you live in a studio apt or dorm room. Apple is suggesting that AirPlay2 will let people sync multiple HomePods thought the house. That's not happening. There are not millions of consumers ready to spend $1200+ on a HomePod system.

Why did they cheap out and put an outdated A8 processor when the Apple TV 4k has the A10x?

I think Apple really missed the boat here. Amazon and Google really grew their ecosystems this Christmas. Not just their own speakers but intergration in other devices.

But they sound like crap!
Apples point here is audio quality and they nailed it.

I chose to wait a few weeks after christmas ...the google max is wreaking havoc with routers, I'll buy a coupla home pods as soon as they are out to replace my antique bose cd players. I got enough junk in my house. I know they will jive better with what Ill be thowing at them with my ipad, iphone and computer.

The design looks nice, the speaker technology is probably the best out on the market but what's stopping me is the price. What I mean, is that I can get a more capable voice assistant, in a decent speaker setup for 80 dollars from Amazon, or spend 350 dollars be locked into Apple Music and deal with Siri's short comings.
You seem to know an awful lot about the Home Pod considering that you have never seen or heard one.

Siri is inferior to practically everyone else in the game. The speaker alone is not worth $350.

Enjoy your iPod HiFi, though.

It integrates pretty damn well with my needs! I don’t think Siri can give users the right experience if she’s asked out or asked perverted questions he he...

I use Siri every day without issues. It works great and does what I need. I have Sonos 5 and play Apple Music through my stereo via Apple TV. Not sure why I would need a HomePod, but will at least buy one to try.

I agree about it not being about who's first, but there's truth about Apple being late in the game in the smart speaker market. Amazon and Google have flooded the market with their speakers and have already captured much of the market. It's not a device that people are likely to upgrade a lot once they've got one.

Apple's primary chance of getting those customers to switch to the HomePod is by touting its best feature - hardware - specifically, audio quality. Even then, there's competition from the Google Home Max, albeit for slightly more money and you can even hook up your cheap Amazon Echo Dot to a decent existing sound system via the 3.5mm jack if you really needed.

Software side, the HomePod is poor. The primary advantage I can see on that side is user privacy. Other than that, Siri is near trash against Alexa and Google Assistant. Also if you want to take advantage of that audio quality, the HomePod only supports Apple Music as far as we know for streaming music.

Truth is, customers who want a voice assistant in each room will want something cheap, and the Echo Dot or Home Mini does the job. You won't be interested in spending $349 on a smart speaker.
another expert that has no experience using it. Great.

I am scratching my head as to how this will work.
Perhaps I am being dumb but if I am sat in my living room with my iPhone and Homepod near by and I ask siri to play an album from apple music then I assume that the Homepod will be the primary respondent to respond to the "Hey Siri" command and play whatever I ask for.
But if my iPhone pings a notification that someone is walking up my driveway and I issue the command "Hey Siri, show me the driveway camera" then that command will need to be acknowledged and activated by my phone as the HomePod does not have a screen so in that instance, my phone will need to be the lead respondent.

I'm interested in HomePod as a device for a room or two, but not something to populate my entire house with. That's kind of the nice benefit to AirPlay 2 and the speakers coming out with support among many other players, I don't have to populate my house with HomePods, just compatible speakers where in places I want to stream varying in price-points depending on how much I care.

Lol there’s not even a Siri Skills store yet as far as i know. Already worse than a 69€ Echo.

Also Siri is in desperate need of a new and more friendly female voice. She always sounds like an uptight angry bitch like „oh sorry I had you bothered“

You think common sense is common? I max my 401k, but it's not the norm. A recent study showed the AVERAGE 401k balance is under $100k. Including people over 55! LOL!! And an average includes the top 1% of 401ks that are in the millions, meaning most people have little or nothing. With an average credit card debt of thousands and average student loan debt of $35,000, people do not fund them.

I don't agree HomePod is useless unless you have a studio or dorm. It works in a typical family room...it's even shown that way in Apple marketing. You're speculating and riffing.

Where do we find the link to your market research study? Oh, wait.

I'm excited about this. I was gifted a dot and like the functionality. A sleek, better sounding device that can control my lights and other IFTT recipes that the wife likes the look of would be a win for me.

I have my buying finger ready - I fully expect the voice assistant features to suck at first but to get ironed out over time.

At the very least I'll be replacing the crappy TV speaker in my bedroom with a much better one (via Apple TV/AirPlay 2)
