This is what Apple need to release as an iPad accessory if they want this idea to work. Few will ever be interested in paying the premium to buy another display.
I second this. I can see it on a desk with a magic keyboard and mouse/trackpad in front of it. Come home take your ipad from the magickeyboard and place it on the imac-stand…

No thanks. Anything home kit related is a joke. Apple doesn’t care about HomeKit and it’s an inferior system as compared to Amazon. Apple faithful will crucify for this but I’ve tried both and there is a reason Apple doesn’t put effort into HomeKit.

I don't know why would anyone need a HomePod with an iPad strapped to it.
Because we want photos weather etc

Amazon show does this well.

I’ve been asking for this for years now.

They laughed at me!!!

Oh born again you are so silly!!!

Now who is laughing?!?!

The only way this will make sense for anyone is if it can work as an AirPlay display (in the kitchen, for example) and the users don't want to just share an iPad instead. We've got a used iPad on a simple stand that also holds an Anker bluetooth/line-in speaker in the kitchen, and that setup is far more flexible: we can take the iPad to the couch, I can hook up an iPod classic to the speaker...

I would like Apple to make an e-paper thing to stick on the fridge. Some always-on but eco-friendly display of calendar, weather, and reminders would help out.

hmmm....foldable display? Wasn't there another mention by Gurman that Apple's first foldable display product won't be an iPhone?

I don’t buy this rumor … They will for sure update their product line with a Dolby Atmos Bar (could have a camera to it actually) and hopefully a mobile HomePod.

Hm... seems like the echo show https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VHZ41L8/ref=twister_B08DPP3T9Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

We have an Echo Show in the kitchen and it’s great for timers and recipe lookup (plus the wife likes to have shows on while cooking). If Apple came out with one we’d dump the Show that day. After all, it’s still an Amazon tracking device with ads and not apart of the Apple ecosystem. It would be nice to be able to control HomeKit devices from it as well. It maybe niche but I think there’s enough of us out there that would buy it that it would make it value added to Apple.

People say why would Apple make this device, and you have proved a perfect example as to why. I have an Echo Show in the bedroom. Amazon have been making them for a while now and update them regularly ish. If their wasn’t a market for them they wouldn’t make them.

A little late and I am massively afraid like the home pod massively over price and miss mark.

Now saying the HomePod is not of high quality as it is but massive over kill for what most people want and way to expensive.

Remember when it felt like Apple was playing 3D chess, and we all used to brag about how Apple skated to where the puck was going, not where it was?

How long has the Echo Show been out? Seven years? What does Vision Pro do over the quest 3 other than higher resolution and better hand tracking, but with no controllers and smaller field of view with less comfort? What was game changing about the HomePod, years after Alexa was out? And now we’re starting to hear rumors of incorporating AI, well after other major players have already started to deliver.

I think the new Apple is about endless “me-too” products that are of high quality, high cost, but lacking in serious ways, and I am disappointed. I’m not saying Apple is doomed, but “it” is over. Peak Apple is in the past.

Was expecting to see it this year. Expecting the price to be quite high when it launches.

Can't switch from Alexa to a HomePod device until Siri gets wildly better and has a "Pod" variant with a screen capable of displaying the family calendar

a device that combines an Apple TV, HomePod, and FaceTime camera, along with iPad-like smart displays that could be magnetically attached to a wall,
All of these devices combined into one device is fine as an additional product for those who want that, but I wouldn’t want it to replace the individual products.
I like my ATV small and hidden away.
I would like a small dedicated FaceTime camera for the ATV at the top of my TV.
I want my two HomePods on either side of my TV to not have screens or any other unnecessarily redundant hardware adding bulk, visual distraction, and waste.

Also I don‘t understand an iPad-like smart display that magnetically attaches to a wall. What’s the difference between that and an actual iPad that magnetically attaches to a wall (Airplayed to the Homepod)? I guess if it’s significantly cheaper (because it’s more limited in function)? But with the cheapest iPad being $329, I’m thinking it would have be at most $150 to be worth it.

Isn’t that an important aspect?

I can’t speak to comfort.

Sound. And to me Siri does a good enough job.

Which products have the competition manufactured that has anything useful to me or anything useful other than baseball scores.

I don’t thing apple is about “endless me-too” products. But okay we all view things differently, but I’m not seeing this yet. But we’ll see.

I see this as a possible home automation play. Have a local device to process all queries and display information to increase user experience. A little bit like the Apple Watch s9 chip.

Yeah, it’s almost as if Apple has become the old Microsoft.

No longer a small nimble team of disrupters. Instead, Apple is like a slow behemoth cruise ship, slow to change direction or turn the ship around. Full of expensive extra amenities and average food where the minions aboard ravage like seagulls.

When the focus is more about the ROI and shareholder value, the result is what we have.
No, Apple isn’t doomed. It’s just a less interesting company today.

And do you need a speaker for photos, weather….etc? There are digital frames you know. And do you really need yet another screen displaying weather?

How many of us have asked for an "iPad like display?". We want a device that integrates into an Apple centered home network. We're not going to do graphic design on this. This is really effing simple but you want to go Sheldon Cooper on us.

1. If I have HomeKit cameras I want to see their feeds.
2. I want to enable HomeKit devices and scenes
3. I want to be able to Facetime

K.I.S.S and people won't return these like they're returning the Vision Pro devices.
