Mine seems to have fixed itself; I haven't done anything with the system other than update them every time a new release is out, and I've yet to have them randomly disconnect or randomly play something. This is with both my new Mac and my old iPhone. Perhaps the latest updates fixed something? I wish Apple would document the changes somewhere so we could keep track of this stuff.
I still have this set Home app -> tap the HomePod -> Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations. Turn them ON, and set the Hold Duration and Ignore Repeat to the maximum (4.00 seconds). and its not turned on music for the last 4 days which is good so its a fix..but I wonder if I were to remove it if maybe just maybe it fixed itself, worth the risk of trying or just wait til the next firmware update?

I've used your settings for a day or so and so far nothing has happened (Thank God). I'll leave them at that and see what happens in the future. Hope they continue to work for you!

Also, to answer your question: It's always a good idea to let others test updates first. Apple used to release updates that would nuke the OG HomePod. Probably ancient history by now, but I'm still careful.

For me its been three days and the original fix I did above seems to be working, no ghosting so far and the homepod works just fine..so Im thinking its some kind of firmware fix that will hopefully fix this mess since Ive never had a problem with my homepod before, 3 yrs, zero issues, til now
I truly believe is software bugs caused the issue, especially when Apple will launch Siri AI in large scale

Well so far what I did above seems to be working..I didnt do the additional step that you recommended I wanted to see first if just doing the touch accommodations did the trick so far so good..Im just hoping the next update fixes it so I can go ahead and remove that and go back to the way it was, never had an issue with the homepod, ever, for any reason, so this issue is just really strange
With the beta update you installed, do you still have the airplay and touch accomondations workaround checked off or did you put everything back to the way it was and the beta update fixes it?
I'm not try recovery all setup as before(default), will do that after IOS 26.6 offical verion released.

Yeah I think so too. Especially since I never had an issue with my homepod before, ever..and for the "fix" to be as simple as changing something in settings means its a firmware issue NOT hardware, if it were hardware nothing would have made it better so will see what happens..if the next firmware update does fix it, should I reset the homepod to factory settings to make it be from scratch or should that not matter

I'm not sure, when I update my homepod mini with the latest tvOS 26.6 RC, the siri has disabled, no matter how you summon (Siri or Hey Siri), there no response from device.
This is too ridiculous, the last version almost to fixed, the new version make it screwed up

Geez so the new update made it worse figures thats apple for ya

I doubt they make this trick for rush people to buy their new verison product
I see that today apple released new firmware updates but not sure if homepod is included..so I just went ahead and updated the homepod and just for funzies I went back into settings and put everything back to the way it was before and will see what happens. I turned back on touch accommodations and to turn back on touch for siri and hopefully this new update wont turn on the music if it does I will turn back on the same original fix

For what I had before I turned touch accomodations back OFF, and the and I turned OFF the hold duration and ignore repeat basically what I had before all this craziness and I also turned back on Touch and Hold for Siri and so far all is good..I dont think I need to reset it right? All seems fine, I dont know if its the update or what happened but all seems good now

So, an update. In the end I did manage to speak to someone at Apple who - while still not acknowledging that Apple is aware of any issue - was empathic and helpful, and arranged for me to send the faulty HomePod in for service... and a replacement HomePod has now been sent to me which I received yesterday.

I've set it up - in a stereo pair with the other one I had, which hasn't (yet) had any issues - and all good for now. I've resisted the prompted software update (ie they're both still on 26.5) for now, for obvious reasons. I don't have a high level of confidence about how long these will last before the ghost touch issues return, but for now I'm happy with this outcome.

I guess my advice would be (for whatever it's worth): be kind but be persistent, and hopefully Apple will do the right thing in the end.

Nice try!

Thought I'd chime in, as I'm having the same issue. I had a HomePod Mini die completely last year, & now we're dealing with ghost touch on another. I finally bought a cheap torx screwdriver set, & plan to pull the ribbon for the touch panel this weekend. I've just had enough, & mine are all out of warranty.

I debated buying a new HomePod Mini to replace, but not at $130. Even $100 was questionable, knowing how awful these are (or will become, over time).

Edit: I removed the ribbon & fixed the HomePod Mini giving us trouble. I tried to restore a different HomePod Mini, & it got stuck in a reset boot loop. I decided to remove the ribbon on this HomePod as well, & it seemed to fix the loop. I might just remove the ribbon on every HomePod Mini I own, whether it's giving me trouble now, or not..

Another update. The replacement HomePod is OK. The other HomePod in my stereo pair has now (of course) developed the touch issue - playing music at max volume randomly, not responding to touch, etc.

Amazingly, I called Apple Support again, and they have agreed to deal with this one as well. So again, it's a bit more hassle but hopefully resolves this issue for good (or at least for another couple of years).

I applaud your efforts, and results. This is really the only way Apple with either admit to an issue, or resolve one; it has to be something they pay for. In this case, new units, shipping, a documented case file, time for the customer rep, etc. Certainly lost in the round off for a company Apple’s size, but if many of those of us affected took your route, it’d be noticed. Sadly, most do what I did and that’s mothball the units, albeit mine were out of warranty.

Good job.
