I just managed to open up a cup of salsa and take a chip full then close the salsa at two consecutive red lights today.

The second light was a close call.

I had to close the container on the onramp

but over here in england petrol is so expensive that it's not really sensible for the majority of people.

Yeah you guys pay what? about 5 or 6 bucks a gallon in US money? We Americans were throwing a **** fit for paying $3 a gallon, we have it easy compared to you guys. I guess thats why you guys have a diesel range rover and we dont tho

Avoidability is a pretty basic principle! Tell you what, next time you go for a flight, let a random untrained drunk person pilot the plane. After all, accidents happen, maybe a trained pilot would sneeze and crash the plane, so what does it matter?

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that those strongly advocating (or rather, desperately trying to excuse) such selfishness and disregard for other road users are also 4x4 drivers

2 points.. 1, the plane analogy was one of the worst ever! ( I know, you were trying to make a point... but sheesh)

and 2, Way to be prejudice against someone for the type of vehicle they drive!

the problem i've always found in the US is that people seem to view driving as downtime, as something that is stopping them from doing something more important. on previous trips over, i've seen one woman trying to change her baby at the wheel, one guy eating food.. ..off a plate with a fork, and someone reading a newspaper, among many other frankly shocking things.

i couldn't condone texting while driving. it's worse than dialing a phone, or smoking, and pretty much the same as drinking, in my books. i mean, you're not exactly in control of the vehicle - and if you think you are, you're deluded.

yet another reason i applaud our strict driving regulations here in the uk. after what i've seen in the past, and what i've read on this forum, i'm quite glad i don't live in the states.

it's about £4 a gallon which is about $8. plus from next year it is likely that high emission vehicles will have to pay the equivalent of $50 a day to drive through central london. so a range rover isn't really viable in london unless you're very rich.

Have never, ever, ever, sent a single text message from any phone

Well, perhaps I'm a bit old fashioned, but if I have a phone in my hands I am not going to be doing any typing.

Here's the thing, why pay by the message for every message (regardless of whether it is one character or a few thousand) to send a message. Why type it out on a keyboard that's so small it's ridiculous. And, why read it. Especially when I can call them, get an answer, and hang-up (all before I could even hit send on the first note)?

I say use a phone to make a call. Use a computer to send an e-mail. And, use a stamp to send a letter.

I did eventually get a cell-phone. But, I'm sure not going to spend 10 minutes typing things back and forth when I can call and get an answer in 5 seconds.

I think text messaging is best suited for just messing around and killing time. And, an expensive way to do it at that.

a $8 per gallon I might consider using my feet as my vehicle.

actually there are a lot of reports of range rovers turning over because of the high centre of gravity. virgin atlantic used to exclusively use range rovers to chauffeur upper class passengers to and from the airport, but got rid of the because of their inherent instability.

Remember you hear reports. I have a late model subaru outback that sticks to the road like glue, but I much prefer my Land Rover Disco II. The thing is solid and it would take a lot roll it over... I thought we were talking about text messages as we drive... My answer is Yes I text as I drive. Sorry
