There's an island in the Seychelles which has just been vacated, I hear.
Good call. Mr and Mrs O are sleeping in the suite at Buck House that the HRH's used on their wedding night. I'm sure house keeping will have done their bit and ready for the next lot of honeymooners.

....We were thinking about Cabo San Lucas in Mexico since it would be cheap and neither of us have been to Mexico before, but the more I read about it the more I'm hearing it's turning into the new Cancun/spring break place, which we want to avoid.....

something to keep in mind is that the spring break kids are only going to be there during spring break.

Cabo is not the place to go for "old Mexico charm" but if a modern beach resort appeals to you, then it has a lot to offer

If you want a really romantic Island, I highly recommend St. Maartens in the Caribbean. Hubby and I spent a romantic week there at the La Samanna Resort.....just beautiful, and tons to do there, sight seeing, fabulous restaurants, little villages to explore, etc.

If you want to venture further afield, we had our Honeymoon on an island in the Seychelles, called Mauritius. It is off the coast of southern Africa, and is just beautiful beyond description:

The ocean is so clear, and so blue, you can see the color of the rocks/fish/shells with the naked eye.

I have two suggestions.

First, the Big Island of Hawaii. It offers a variety of things to do from mountain biking to snorkeling/scuba diving to hiking to fine dining. Truly an excellent mix of potential adventures. It also offers a variety of shopping from high-end places to Costco, so quite the variety.

Second, the Florida Keys. Similar to Hawaii, there's a lot of variety. I would suggest a middle key such as Islamorada (Morada Bay restaurant is fantastic) for relaxation. Key West is great for a young couple, with lots of night life (have to go to Mallory Square for the daily sunset festival).

I know they're both US, and perhaps not as "exotic" as other places, but certainly either of them are fairly easy to get to, safe, and offer great variety. Unfortunately I'm traveling with my work computer so don't have access to our pictures from last year's vacation to Hawaii.

I may be a little biased because we honeymooned in Hawaii and have been there twice since, and have been to the Keys many times (probably 8 or 9).

The wife and I went to Cabo and loved it about 6 years ago. We went in the off season, avoided the crowds, and felt like we had the place to ourselves. We relaxed by the pool, marina and ocean and enjoyed each others company. The nightlife wad fun, but it's not why we went. It's a dramatic landscape and gorgeous setting. If you can't relax there, see a psychologist.

My favorite place on earth to vacation is St. John in the US Virgin Islands. Unlike the more populated/popular St. Thomas, 40% of St. John has been designated as national park land and cannot be developed. So it's not rows and rows of resorts like a lot of the major Caribbean islands. With the exception of the Westin, there aren't hotels on the beach.

There have been many times when me and my family or my girlfriend were the only ones on a beach in the middle of the day. It's amazing and beautiful. There's also an underwater museum/exhibit at Trunk Bay, which makes snorkeling fun. Typing this has made me realize I need to go back.

The only thing is it's not a cheap vacation, and you probably won't find super discount specials online, but it's worth it.

Some amazing places/pictures in this thread. The wife and I are salivating over the Seychelles, but we decided that we will probably go to Cabo San Lucas...the wife really wants to go to Mexico, and that's fine with me since it will be fairly cheap, and like I said, neither of us have been there before so why not.

Thanks.:)
