I don't know what kind of circles, but I guess driving retina screen is taxing the system. Still wouldn't give up my 2015 rMBP for an Air.

maybe not circles, but no UI lag is a big deal for me. I do not use it just as a "laptop" that much. I usually am docked to an external display. When I did that with the 2015 pro it was fine, but every time I would need to use it as a laptop the UI lag would drive me mad. I guess I just wish they had a full HD screen on a laptop. Imagine the pro with just a full HD screen. It would look great and perform like a pro. I was more shocked that the Air feels like it performs better than the pro. Granted, the benchmarks between the maxed out 13" Air and maxed out 13" Pro are pretty close.

I'll be replacing my mid-2009 13" MBP (it's become so sluggish, even after upgrading RAM to 8GB)

Does your 2009 MBP have SSD?

I need a bigger SSD and I've been debating whether to upgrade the RAM & SSD in my 2010 (I have already ordered it, but rethinking now of whether to open it when it arrives), or whether to get a new MBA (better performance, better battery life, better portability) and sell the 2010.

Does anyone have a mover's coupon? I would love to pick up an Air from BB this weekend, and the post office is closed until Monday. I will replace your coupon code once I can get into the post office!
Thanks.

Use eBay. I bought one yesterday for $4

So I found on another forum- you do a change of address through the post office online. It cost you $1.05 (to verify its you), you can make it temporary for a couple of weeks then your Mail will go back to your normal address. They email you the BB coupon and you print it out. Just picked up the $799 MBA for $719. I also read you can cancel the move request- but haven't tried that yet.

Also picked up one from BB for $719 the other day :) GREAT DEAL if you ask me. The amount i saved compared to getting a MBR, which was WAY too small for my bear hands. Love the footprint of the 13" MBA. AND saved $600 :)

I just use it around my house, and if i want a higher quality display i plug it into my 27" Asus monitor :)

Plus keep in mind the 2015 MBA can output 4k @60z to a external monitor.

Yes, it's gonna be perfect for what I need. Email, Word, and simple Excel sheets. Couldn't pass up this deal either.

I agree, the MBA 13" will be PERFECT for my casual use. Even better that extra $600 staying in my pocket is even better :)

The deal is so good if in V2 with the MBR they come out with a 14" i wouldn't even lose that much reselling the MBA since i paid $719 and the retail is $999 :)

For now I'm happy.

I can confirm the $799 MBA deal is valid at Best Buy because I just bought two laptops. I also used the 10% mover's coupon which brought each laptop down to $720 plus tax. I think that's a awesome deal on what appears to be a nice laptop.

I was going to buy a new MB for $1299 when they become available but this deal was too good to pass up. I got myself and my wife a MBA for roughly the same price I would've spent on one newer MacBook.

Funny thing is we were at an Apple Store earlier and there were people paying $999 for the same exact model. lol

Yup I love the Air 13". I had a MBPR didn't need the power but wanted the Retina. Ultimately I still prefer the MBA for around the house. I forget how nice the Retina was and the MBA screen is 10 times better if you download the custom color profile. The problem with the Air sometimes is the screen is not properly calibrated from the factory. I made a thread about this. It changed the contras and color ony 2015 MBA to a night and day difference!

That is terrific; I sent the info you've all shared to a friend of mine who I think may be getting one of these deals for a spouse. I do wish I didn't want/need something a bit more maxed out so I could take advantage of it, too!

Seems odd to have the Macbook AND new version (2015) of the MBA, and after playing with both at the Apple store, I figure I can go without the Retina in exchange for more power and flexibility (ports, etc)...but since the redesign is so new, it seems doubtful, at least for a while yet. If the rMB was $999, I'd probably go there, but I don't see paying for Retina at the same price as the new MBA

In manufacturing, this process is called "maximizing return on investment'

The R&D, Supply channel, part molds and everything associated with the Air were paid off years ago. The Air line is their "Bargain" computer that 90% of the population does not even realize is slightly outdated by screen resolution.

This allows Apple to mac a killer profit margin on even their cheapest offering.

So it's my understanding the hard drive not the RAM can be upgraded at this time. Can I assume or hope this will change in the future?

I think the MBA is a GREAT machine especially for the $720 i just bought it for brand new. And that is true 90% of the people who aren't tech savvy doesn't realize the screen isn't even "HD". Still its funny how some over in the Macbook section say the MBA is now "cheap looking" or "old looking". I just couldn't at the moment justify the extra $600 for a less powerful machine, smaller screen BUT HAS the Retina. I plug my MBA into a 4k or 1080p screen a lot at home. Only times I'm using the screen is in bed or on the couch, and it does JUST fine for that.

Im really hoping the V2 of the MBR has a 14" model. The current one is just too small and tight for me. I LOVE LOVE the footprint of the 13" MBA. I find it more "industrial" looking or 69 Camaro SS tough compared to the MBR. Which i would compare that to a smaller Lotus :)

no one knows. I cannot imagine what you would do that would not tax the core M, but would tax 8gb of RAM. Hell 4gb of RAM is more than enough for most people.

I hear such varying comments on this, matt - some say that if you are an internet hog (eg, tab hog), that switch to 8gb makes a big difference with speed. I don't know that that's the case, but I have read it on these boards. Personally, I have more need of the larger (or largest) flashdrive as a dealbreaker.

I was using just 2gb until recently on an air, and it worked fine. I typically have 4-6 spaces and multiple tabs open. People go RAM crazy...that is for the people who need pro performance. Trust me, with these great SSDs and 4gb of RAM you will be good for the next several years.

I recently bought the 2015 base air with a 256 SSD from best buy. With my reward points, and the 10% movers coupon it only cost me $450 out of pocket. It will easily last me the next 4 years if I want it to. It feels faster than my 2015 13" pro b.c it does not have to drive the retina display.

Here I am beginning to play with my new laptop.

No idea why the picture is upside down. lol

NICE! If you don't already know, this is one of the FIRST things you should be doing. At least thats what i did. Night and day difference! Heres the link  If you do download the color profile, let me know how it looks on your panel. :D

Interested to see others feedback on the 2015 model.

I realize there is something in me that thrills to great bargains, even if I'm not able to get them myself, which is why I love these posts. I'm focused on the certified refurbs right now, desiring a 512 flash drive, which one will NOT find at BBBY or any other reseller, unfortunately.

EDIT

That trick helped a lot. Thanks :)

Yup seems to be a problem the MBA displays are not properly calibrated from the factory. I wish more people knew about this. Because if anything its the color and contrast that bothers me coming from a retina. Not so much getting ULTRA sharp text. If i use the Command + key to zoom the text looks clear enough for me!

quick question: I'm trying to order a protective skin for my MacBook Air. Are the 2015 models the same size (exterior wise) vs the earlier models?
