omg, finally i have a lineless PB :D

i got a call from the guy at my local apple store who was sorting out my replacement screen for me (so that i didnt have to send it off and be without my computer for weeks) he swapped the screens over in 10 minutes and came back to his desk with a big smile on his face \o/

i can start taking photos and doing design work again...yay!!

Cool... does it exhibit the diagonal moving lines as well on those orange backgrounds as posted earlier in this thread?

My PowerBook's still at Apple, it's been on hold since the 15th awaiting a part.

Righty... received my PowerBook back this morning after 1 month in the shop.

It's now got... 2 dents, 1 gouge and numerous scratches. Not impressed.

And to top it off, they've not rectified the diagonal lines either.

You're joking? They didn't replace the screen?

If you set your wallpaper to the one in the zipped file attached (courtesy of this blog), there is no way that anyone with the gift of vision could send back your PB thinking that they've actually fixed the screen.

I've already had the screen replaced to fix the horizontal lines. ;)

Mine exhibits 45 degree diagonal moving lines on certain colours. They changed the logic board but that's done nothing, so they obviously didn't check the screen before sending it back.

It pales in comparison to the damage that's been done to it though.

I've only had it since Feb 2nd, and it's spent 6 weeks in repair since then.

Wow that sucks bonkey dalls!!

I was livid when I opened the box this morning, REALLY pissed off.

I know Apple hire some real cherries, I've encountered enough of them to know that... but really, you'd have to be a right Johnny No-Stars to f**k up a repair so badly.

Yeah, I thought about that like 10 minutes after I posted. "Didn't he already have his PB in once?" argh Sorry about that. :)

heehee, nor worries, I'm still trying to get over the irony of a replacement machine being worse than the machine it replaced. :p

You'll call Apple right?

My repair story:
I've send my PB on for a screen replacent. A service center will do the repair, I've waited 2 1/2 weeks now. The service center have the screen replacement, but can't attach the screen cause Apple didn't send "glue-strips" with it. With out these strips the screen isn't attached correctly. They have called Apple several times but that didn't make Apple send the strips.
I called the service center and they asked me to call Apple to make them send the damn strips. I called Apple last thursday, and was promised that the strips would be in the mail very shortly.
But after calling the service center today they informed me that they still didn't have the strips.
Now the easter holliday is on it's way and I won't see my PB for a long time.
This is getting very tiresome. Go Apple :(

I've emailed the person who has been helping me with this since January, just waiting for her to contact me.

I'm still livid 24 hours later.

Update then... I received a call from the girl at Apple who has been handling my case since January this morning.

She was very apologetic regarding my issues, and has agreed that having to have the replacement PowerBook in for repair twice within 2 months of owning it, of which it spent 6 weeks in repair, and subsequently returned to me in a damaged state, without the original fault being rectified as being unacceptable. So she's arranging for me to have the PowerBook replaced with a new MacBook Pro 1.83GHz.

Sorry I'm not going to be of much help now to those that are experiencing the same moving diagonal lines issue.

If it is of any help though, mine was returned to me at the start of the week, and the repair sheet stated that the Logic Board had been replaced. Yet I was still experiencing the problem.

My only advice is that if you've got a PowerBook that does have this problem, contact Apple about it and return the machine for repair, and work your way from there.

All the best guys.

G

It is considering it's essentially a replacement for a 3 year old 1 GHz TiBook. :D

*crosses fingers and hopes that the replacements replacement is dandy* :D

I bought my 15" Powerbook 1.67(dual layer SD) in late December of last year. the display, which seemed to cause alot of eye fatigue when compared to my 1ghz Ti-Book. I chalked it up to a different display design(?). After surfing around the internet, last night I figured out that mine had the same horizontal line problem as everyone else(thanks to the numerous complaint posts and test patterns that were created for this rediculous mistake Apple made). The serial no. started with W8548, which I guess proves that EVERY Powerbook G4 15" 1.67(dual layer SD)built From October 2005 to it's discontinuation is plagued with this issue. I called Apple support today, and they seemed to be aware of the problem, even though they wouldn't tell me about it in a direct manner. They quickly gave me a case number and off I took it to my local Genius Bar, and the kid taking my info couldn't see or recall any problems like this(even though the only 15" Powerbook in the store was sitting there exibiting the same problem as mine). I gave him the Samsung 646-0324 part no. and he put it on the service order as a proposed solution. I hope they do the right thing and replace it with the proper screen. He told me it would be fixed within 10 days(even though I've had repairs done in 2 days from Apple). Hoping to get it back soon for the extensive CrankyCat, Quadrants, and Desktop Split tests. I inconspicuously tested 4 other computers in the store (including 12 and 17" Powerbook G4's and 2 MacBook Pros), and their displays were normal when using the "desktop split" test. I'll post back here again after I get the computer back post my results. I'm crossing my fingers...

You should be okay now, new displays have been filtering in to the system for a few months now.

Hope you don't get the dreaded 45 degree moving interference lines though.

Are you referring to the moving wavy lines that appear to move from top right to bottom left on the orange block on the CrankyCat test as interference?
Jeez, I hope they get that right also, or it's going back again. That's just not acceptable for a 2 grand investment.
I thought the new screen would fix this, I guess we'll see.
A new MacBook Pro would be cool if they want to replace it...

I bet it doesn't. ;)

Indeedy. :D

Good luck.

Thought I'd visit memory lane after reading in a related thread about horizontal liens on MacBook Airs.

In the end after almost three years with my last rev (D/E) hires 15" PB, the display started flickering when I moved the hinge. Still under Applecare, so last Autumn (2008) I took it in to get - finally - a new LCD panel fitted...

...would it also cure the lines?...

...after two weeks in the shop they told me that they can no longer source the 15" Hi res screen (1440x960).

After some considerable arguing/complaining, I now own a brand new 17" matte 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro (with added 320GB(!) 7200rpm and US keyboard custom fitted) to match my old PowerBook. I wouldn't accept the new 15" as it comes with a glossy screen!

So did anyone ever get a good 15" 1440x960 replacement LCD back?

Is the MacBook Air problem the same thing?

horizontal lines on lcd refresh rate

I am using a powerbook G4 12" and though there are no visible lines on the lcd, I am trying to hook it up to an external monitor 4 Photoshop, & after adjusting all the settings 4 the monitor I can't get these lines off the screen. I can't change the refresh rate or even view it either. I have been told this is due to the fact that lcd's dont have a refresh rate- they have something called Image or pixel latency, and also that they default at 60Ghz. I don't know what to believe. I am confused & I know my external monitor needs to be set to 60Ghz. what baffles me is why the lines get smaller or almost unnoticeable if I up the resolution for it past the factory recommended settings and what Osx says the settings should be at. I think my computer is putting out a faster refresh rate than 60Ghz. and I don't want black margins that make the screen smaller than my 12". Is anybody out there up on this? I tried apple support online and phone and they are clueless. So am I. HOW DO I REMOVE THE LINES ???? IT IS WORSE THAN LOVECRAFT'S NON-UCLIDIAN GEOMETRY!!!!!

Next time you want to relive the past, perhaps you could do it without reviving a very old thread. Just a thought because then you get newbies (above) posting with issues.

pls help white horizontal lines almost cant see anything anymore

HI i got this macbook less than a year ago , had been doing great but about 2 days ago, grey horizontal lines appeared on my monitor all over -worsening, i can barely see anything now-its like when you run out of ink in your printer and its just this hazy fading everything-- i have model 9c89 monitor. this just sucks! any help /input is appreciated. am not computer savy. ann

...yeah - that's not the problem this thread was talking about a trillion years ago. Start a new thread.

Likely there is something clearly wrong with your computer that would be fixed by Apple if under applecare.
