OOPS. Bought it on Steam, it's out here in 2 hours. Can't wait :)

Was gonna hold back for the full GOTY edition. But oh well.

I now have my new 17inch mbp, but no w7 to split the hdd with. Is there anywhere I can get a decent copy or do I have to order a copy from Windows and spend all that money?

Skyrim looks gorgeous on 2012 (sandybridge) iMac

(I have the base model with 512MB video card). Also, I don't think Windows 7 needs to be registered - i'm not necessarely condoning piracy, but I honestly lost my key and it works fine. Have fun! I've been RPGing since Wizardry 1, and this may be the best RPG ever!

I read in another post it runs awesome at full resolution on the MacBook Air! I can't wait to start playing it- just worried if I will be able to stop!

Yh I have the disk but I don't have the box or key for it. If it doesn't need registering then that would be fine. Thanks for the help
Also whats the difference between the quoted VRAM that the system information gives. Mine has 1024mb and 348mb VROM video cards

Thread revival. I just noticed they are trying to sell Skyrim VR on Steam for $59, right...
Anyone playing the VR version? Just wondering how the controls are under VR.

If you have the controls and headset, maybe but from what I've seen/read its not a great experience. Its kind of fun initially but then it gets old quickly. Aiming bow and arrows for instance was reported to be frustrating and inaccurate.

That has always been my worry about VR, the controls. If the game was tailored for it with VR Controllers maybe, but I am highly dependent in early stages of any game on my crib notes and seeing my controllers. In Bethesda games there are a lot of buttons I use. True, after a while you kind of memorize them, but in the beginning...and when you have a lapse, I don't want to have to pause the game, remove my goggles to review notes.

For the next Elder Scrolls entry, I wonder how much influence Fallout 4 will have on it? I’ll assume there will not be any settlement management, which I like btw, but understand ES is a different beast.

Less Fallout 4 and more Fallout 76 imo, I think we'll definitely see something more along the lines of the atom store, and while Skyrim and FO4 have the creation club, FO76 takes that to the next level.

I could be wrong, but Starfield is next in the line, some people are hoping for a late 2020 (but 2021 seems more likely) and so we may not see skyrim until 2022

Steam currently has another sale.

I broke down and bought the Skyrim special edition for $19.99 (50% off).

I think it has slightly better graphics and it comes with all the Skyrim DLC.

It's nice to use my 100 blacksmithing to make dragon weapons on top of the armor that was in the original Skyrim :).

The sale is also selling Fallout 4 for $8.99 (70% off).

Haven't played much of Skyrim, but for Oblivion I found that the PC version was much better. The console version is good if you don't have a PC good enough to run the game, but PC opens up the console and mods. I also find that dungeon crawling is a lot quicker with a keyboard and mouse than with a controller, and the more precise movements make it better for me.

Maybe when I build my next PC I will try the special edition of Skyrim. I have heard that many of the RPG elements from Oblivion were stripped (armor/weapon damage over time is an example) so I may not enjoy it as much as Oblivion.

Downloading now - its been many many months since I last played Skyrim [on the PS4], so I know what I'll be doing today :D

Have fun !!!

I have been playing for the last month and just hit level 61.

In Skyrim, is there any player who does not focus on bow, sneaking, and pickpocketing ?

Magic is fun but the damage output seems pretty lackluster.

Is leveling broken like Oblivion? I usually stayed around level 10-15 on Oblivion because the difficulty scaling was so broken. Bandits had high end armor and weapons, and rare enemies were everywhere. I also noticed all the enemies took a lot more damage to kill at higher levels.

I might have to take the plunge. I have skyrim for the PS4 but I find myself playing in my Pc more now
Can't beat the price of $19.99 (50% off) :).
I played Skyrim for over a year (including DLCs), I loved the see that mountain, go climb it without a zone load. When I was active in the game, I actually posted an Adventures in Skyrim blog about it. Now I can't really judge about how good or bad it is, so if you look, please be kind in your critiques. :)

It's the opposite in Skyrim.

At level 61 with the armor / weapons I can make (100 blacksmith skill), the enemies I'm fighting are not really a challenge. The exception for me are higher level vampires with their health drain.

I played Oblivion twice now and never finished the games because of the scaling.

It's getting crowded in my game :).

I headed across the map with a companion to a quest location. Along the way, I accidentally ran into two NPCs that were waiting on me for another quest and was surprised when they started following me around.

In the last dungeon I was in, I summoned the ghostly assassin while my companion and one of the NPCs following me also summoned creatures during fights. That gave me (counting myself) seven in most battles. I didn't bother stealthing and didn't attack anything for the most part out of fear of hitting an ally.

After the bigger fights, I usually had to wait while my allies attacked each other :).

I tend to mix it up for variety. Currently playing with a battleaxe, magic armour and weapons, and potions. Very little bow, sneak, pickpocket, but I have taken that route before, as well as a primarily magic route. I pick a few skills at the start of the game and device that those will be my speciality but try to change it up each game.

Epic game. Can’t wait for the next one.

How does it compare with your console version and are you having fun in your replay ?
Its good, there's advantages and disadvantages to both platforms. I think graphically, it looks nicer since its the special edition and I'm running a higher end GPU - I've not really compared the two, so I'm just making an assumption.

Adding mods, and access to the console is a plus, though I don't interact too much with the console, but its good to have if needed

The downside is I have an ultrawide monitor and so far I've not been to get it to run at 3440x1440 but 2550 x 1080 Not a huge deal, and to be honest, I've not spent a lot of time looking into it either.

What kind of graphic card do you have? I found that when I switched to a 4k monitor, I could not get Fallout 4 to scale up to a 4k resolution, but then I opened Geforce Experience (the Geforce utility) told it to optimize F4 and then it launched to fill my 4k screen. I have no idea what kind of optimization it made other than just selecting a higher resolution. Is it at 4k? Hmm, I assume it is, but I’ll check as I assume if it was less than 4k it would be appearing in a box on the screen, not filling the entire monitor.

But, I seem to remember a time when I could play games at different resolutions and they all seemed to fill the screen. 🤔

I’m trying to remember my Skyrim build, I think I was battle mage, good armor and weapons aided with some killer spells. Oblivion was the best because it had a spell crafting station, which they got rid of in Skyrim.

I’ve admitted that for my second play though of Fallout 4 via mods I gave myself a killer sniper rifle early in the game which had a profound effect on making fights more fun. And later acquired the epic raider coat found in a bank vault in downtown Boston. I still die, but infrequently.
