The murder and being actively pursued is the hook. Those elements faded, disappeared in Season 3 removing much of the unique bite from the series, making it feel more like a grittier The West Wing. Disclaimer: I've got 3 episodes to go. I'm wondering in FU's final unraveling, if it's an old crime, the reappearance of Rachel, or something new that snags him. I'm not convinced Rachel is dead. :)

If Ripley came back from death in Aliens, anything is possible. :)

Underwood focused on the details, it was what made him so dangerous. This season however, he lost it. It was awesome when he showed his true colours (specifically in the phone call to Dunbar regarding Doug), but his lack of focus other than reelection...

The most shocking thing this season was the conclusion with Doug and Rachel, other than that...meh.

I've finished Season 3. As I previously said, the hook was unsolved crimes and active pursuit. That edge was lost for this season and seemingly finished with the final episode of season 3. I assume there will be a fourth season to wrap up this sad story. I find it hard to believe that Claire never realized she was support, but not an equal partner as Mrs. Underwood. Despite some dissapointment, I'll be watching. A show like this can only end satisfactorily with the House of Cards falling around Frank Underwood. :)

I fully expect Underwood's "administration of cards" to collapse. It's clear he is evil enough that there is a fall coming.

Third season disappointed. I stayed with it just to get it over with. A few successful scenes are insufficient to carry all the episodes. It appeared they ran out of story for some peripheral characters, at least anything worth watching.

By the way. Art direction. Did anyone notice the desaturated color and dark shadows in scenes featuring the President and First Lady ? I thought my TV screen was getting defective. But then I saw the opening credits again and color, brightness and vibrancy was restored.

I did not notice, but not saying you are incorrect.

Particularly when the Underwoods were home. It felt bleak, which could have been intentional. Though a viewer's TV and room brightness plays a role. It would be less apparent on an amped-up LED TV watched in a brightly lit room.
