Hello,

New iphone user. Had my iphone 4s stolen under apple care.

So for my iphone 5 I would like to have a plan that covers lost and theft.

There are so many options, and some look "shadier" than others.

What are you going to use?

SquareTrade. It's the best deal right now. $90 iPhone 5 plans with the coupon. It does everything the AppleCare+ does and more for cheaper.

I'm not. Apple will replace your phone, even without warranty, for $200. As long as it hasn't been put through a meat grinder.

How was it stolen? Did you forget it or were your robbed at gun point?

Sorry to ask my own question in someone else's thread but since we're on the topic, what ARE the options for iPhone insurance? I've always just insured my phones through Verizon but does that not work with iPhone? I know Apple does things a little different in terms of warranty and stuff like that. So is insurance through Verizon not an option? Or not "good enough"?

(This will be my first iPhone.)

I was presented the insurance options when I ordered my phone on Verizon. They had a theft/damage/etc insurance for $10/month (or $120/year).

ETA: I went and looked up the Applecare+ and here is the deal:
AppleCare+ costs $99 and if you drop your phone or get it wet Apple will replace your iPhone for a $49 deductible (up to two times). But this does not cover if you lose your phone or get it stolen.

So basically, if you are accident prone, for $150 total, you could get a 'new' (probably refurbished?) phone.

Dont be sorry, I'm asking the same thing.

Apple offers their own insurance 99$ and 49$ deductible. But no lost/stolen.

Squaretrade has their deal similar to apples but no lost/stolen.

I'm currently looking for a plan with lost and stolen features if anyone wants to shed light.

I'd really look to your carrier then because Verizon definitely has that.

Thank you both for your replies! That was very helpful. I think I'll probably just stick with Verizon. Looks like it's a little more expensive in the long run, but it'll be easier for me to pay the additional $10/month as opposed to dropping $99 all at once. Plus then I know it's protected from damage and lost/stolen phone.

AppleCare+ vs. VZW Warranty vs. Geek Squad. vs. SquareTrade

I started this thread a while back: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1411857/

Hopefully all here will find it helpful. If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know.

Thanks,
will

For the record, I'm doubling standard AppleCare with my Visa & adding on SquareTrade for the accidental damage.

Except for the $170-$200 deductible per lost/stolen phone claim.

Ohhhhh that's not sounding so good. I thought it would be the typical $99 or whatever that most smartphones are. Hm. I may have to re-think this. Apple Care wouldn't be too bad... I've never ever lost a phone or had one stolen, but there's a first time for everything! And with my luck, that would be the first time.

ETA: I'm reading through the link you posted now.

Simple. Take care of it and it costs me zero dollars. Don't be stupid, clumsy, lay it around, toss it around, forget it, lay it down, or whatever. Just be-careful with it, take care of it, and you don't need to waste any money on an "insurance" plan.

Thats word for word what I said before I bought insurance without lost/theft.

I always had my iphone with me, always in my pocket, I checked my pocket everytime I stood up from a seat or left a table.

Things happen thoe.

my 4s was stolen too...i had insurance with at&t and even though their insurance sucks they just send me a brand new iphones 4s...i'll be insuring with them again just because they do cover everything...but you do pay about $8 a month plus $199 deductible
