I'm going to call later today and ask for a free case. I'm not going to complain, just ask if I can have one for free too :)

I got a free one at my store on opening day from simply complaining the line took 5.5 hours. The store, Aspen Grove in Littleton Co., was ill prepared for the opening. Not enough staff on hand, staff standing around doing nothing, staff coming on shift, standing and talking to fellow employees for 15min (yes I timed it) before starting to help move iPhones. I know not all employees were there to sell phones but when I see the same blue shirt standing in one spot for 45 min (yes I timed it) and literally spoke with not one customer, that's a problem. Cross train your employee's for crying out loud.

iPhone genius's were walking people over to help them pick out a case.... no.... sell them their iPhone and the woman standing and doing nothing for 45 minutes can speak with them about buying a case. OR remind them about their cool feature to scan and pay and walk.... I did that and the guy over by the cases said I was the first one he saw do it all day..... after 5.5 hours I was the first. Obviously there is a lack of training there as that feature is one of the most awesome things about their app. That and you get your iPhone on the app typically before it's available on the computers. Suckers use a web browser to buy their iPhones now. I had my 3 bought before the web site even came up.

I have been to openings with WAY longer lines that moved 5 times faster. That was an unacceptable opening IMHO so I let them know it. I didn't ask for or expect anything for free but manager offered so I accepted. My 5.5 hours in their line is worth their $39 retail case.

I believe calling in this situation when you clearly knew you had the wait is the d-bag thing to do but to each his own.

I called twice yesterday. On my second time calling I finally complained. I've been waiting for my phone on launch day. And for those of you who think that isn't hard work... It is!! It's no fun at all. The man I spoke to was extremely sweet and offered my a case and upgraded me to expedited shipping. Who am I to say no :D can't wait for my blue case and gold iPhone5S to arrive <3

I don't understand how you guys ordered opening day/minute and are still waiting. I just walked into my apple store about a week and a half ago and purchased one.

Yeah, there are a load of ********ters around here aren't there.
A TINY FEW people &/or in smaller regional centre's in the US got to "just walk in and purchase one" — the other 95% of people in the US most certainly didn't.
And as for outside the US, the physical Apple Stores have had hardly any AT ALL, never mind for the casual "wander-in and buy" brigade!

As for free cases, tried complaining, just got told to write-in with my complaint. So free cases my ass!

Exactly, they set the expectation when the phone was orderd. And, in placing the order, you agree to it.
Calling in to complain to them because you want it faster, and then coming back on here to brag how you got free stuff is a straight dousch move.

I can't blame apple for throwing stuff at them to make then stop whining, I wouldn't want to deal with those type of people either.

As a useful note to UK order people (probably same worldwide)...

I was 50th at a medium-size Apple Store here in the UK. Unfortunately all but one model had gone by the time it got to me, so I walked away with nothing (16GB wasn't a size I could live with).

Immediately I ordered (via the website, not the iOS app) a gold 64GB model, although by that time (only ~8am BST) the delivery time had gone from "7-10 working days" to plain "October" — I've been thinking, damn now I no won't get one until mid-to-end Oct!

HOWEVER, my delivery date is now showing as scheduled for "Wed 09 Oct 2013", so it looks like I was wrong, as that's just after the initial period offered; actually it'll be the 13th working day after the 20 Sep 2013 release day.

So clearly, when Apple show "October", they're keeping it very open, but those who ordered just after the 7-10 working days are receiving their unit near to that time. If you left it longer, you'll obviously have to wait that bit longer, but at least Apple seem to be delivering in a reasonable timeframe as per to what they advised at time of ordering.

Hope this helps anyone wondering likely delivery dates. :)

Free case? Good luck to anyone who managed to blag one!
Given the 5S units were so completely and utterly limited on initial release this year worldwide, leaving a lot of disappointed people physically queuing at their stores and beyond, I'd suggest sweeteners like this serve them well both short- and long-term in their customer PR stakes.

My phone turned-up early! Just got from the UPS guy. So that's actually the 11th working day from ordering on the 20th, despite it showing me "October" rather than the "7-10 working days" on ordering.
...and no, there wasn't a free case included, if anyone wondered (I have a clear TPU one already, so didn't need really it anyway).

My advice: when you get the "Shipped" notification from Apple, do not just use Apple's own order tracking info, instead copy the UPS tracking number from Apple's notification page and paste it into the courier company's (UPS) own tracking site. As after checking myself it's often a lot more accurate than Apple's, as it said "out for delivery" until 5 mins ago, following me signing for it. (I phoned Apple and they said they often do not update the tracking from the courier on their site for up to 48h, hence it can be out of date).
...I thought this might happen, as I've ordered a fair amount from Apple online over the years, and they nearly always deliver a day or two earlier than their estimated date!

I got a free black case for my iPhone 5S silver. I called and talked to superwiser and she offered me when I complained abt not getting my iPhone yet. I ordered on Sept 20 at 4:30 AM Eastern time.

lmao I would have told you to cry more.

First world problems up in here.

I called today and said what's deal with this status. She said as expected it's just a shortage and she too is waiting for her gold iphone. No mention of a free case or upgraded shipping. I didnt get angry or upset, just said it's terrible. End of conversation. Lame.

Each day I contemplate just cancelling and living with my iphone 5 another year. It seems fine with ios7. I ordered at 4am. Frustrating.

I got a $90 store credit when i rang to sort out a swap for a iPad 4 back light problem. It was a supervisor and she said she gave it to me because i was nice, and said she gets abused all day long from people.
Got 2 5s cases.

Right.
I did.
It worked.
I got one.

Been waiting on 64gb gold iphone 5S and inquired about the status or lack thereof. Apple agent gave me a free case as a complimentary for the wait. Brown 5S case FREE. Thank you Apple you've never let me down. :D

Im still waiting on mine cause I called apple before the launch to ask questions and said Id be getting one in mail in few weeks :)

How do you guys able to get a free 5s case

How do you guys able to get a free 5s case??

i chatted two times online, didn't work.

they keep telling me they are sales, and i have to call to contact customer service.

How can i get a free case

You call apple customer service and get an update with your shipping status. Then luck of the draw, you get a good representative and offer you a case for your frustration.
