I've had a whitebook for 2.5 years and I'm using this computer for the third day, and I much prefer this screen. My screen is beautiful and the colors are great. The vertical viewing angle isn't 90 degrees or anything but I just adjust the screen angle so I always look at it dead on. Not an issue. I have a 9C8B panel I believe, and this computer rocks!

9C8B panel here as well, and it looks fantastic, i think a lot of the bad reviews were bases on earlier panels , the 9C8B seems to be very good......

Hi

I just bought a new 13inch Ali Macbook 2.4 and the screen is lovely, not giving me anything to moan about :)

My screen is ok for me, so how much more do we have to beat this to death?
We all know the Macbooks screen isn't as good as the Pro and the Air.

awesome....

"those who calibrate there MacBook screen for porn"
Uh, NO! Any serious photographer, heck even any amateur photographer knows that calibrating the screen is a necessity. Come on now. Screen calibration = porn... Wow sorry

Well any serious photographer or any amateur that has the slightest knowledge would choose the last gen MBP with matte screen for the same price as a MB. I am an amateur digital photographer after doing some pro film PJ work for the LA Daily News and LA Times in the 80's and I won't even load Photoshop or Lightroom on my MB....

My MB is for surfing, light gaming and porn when traveling. The screen is too damn small to do photo work. And if I was going to process digital on my MB I would use an external display.

So your saying you cant be a serious photographer if you have a MacBook. Haha! Ok then...

I am afraid we MB owners are just ignorant "non pro" users who wouldent recognise a decent LCD panel if it hit us according to the MBP owning real "pro users" on this forum......

We hardly deserve to be allowed to comment on how good our new unibodies are because we know no better not being true "pros" and all........

Agree!
someone could have the worst looking screen in the world but TO THEM it looks ok. Its all about what you like. My MB screen is perfect for me no matter what anyone else says.
I guess I should stop pursuing photography since 'you cant be a serious photographer with a MacBook!' haha!

Yes im afraid so.......no more photography for you......a hobby more in keeping with our strictly "none pro" MacBooks, such as flower arranging maybe ?

Because i have been assured by the "pro" users on this forum that the display on MY MB is so bad and washed out and lacking in contrast and the blacks are no good, and the viewing angles are so appalling that it is a wonder that i can see anything on the screen at all.....

Oh i forgot to mention the glare from the glass front that so annoys the "pro" users.........

Yea we should just throw these things in the garbage right now and go buy a new Pro!

But seriously, one of my friends has always told me "It's not the arrow, it's the indian"
Meaning: Its not always about equipment. Its the creativity of the one behind the equipment. As far as I'm concerned someone could be a serious photographer with nothing more than an iPhone. You dont need a SLR and a MacBook PRO to be 'serious' about something.. Its all in the heart sir.

Amen.................

I am not saying that....but buying a MB and not knowing it's limitations makes you an ignorant serious photographer.

There is nothing wrong with buying a MB for photo work as long as you know what you are buying. Obsessing over calibration, blacks etc, means you did not do your research and bought the wrong computer for your needs.

That is your mistake, not Apples.

BTW, I think the MB screen is fantastic for what I use it for....

I bought the MB for its size. Thats what I wanted. Thats why I bought it!
I see what your saying but the way your making your point it comes across as you cant be 'serious' if you own a MacBook.

And never once will you find a post of me 'bitching' about blacks or contrast or calibration..

One thing I can tell sitting at my desk right now is that there doesn't appear to be a perfect angle. At one angle the dock looks great but the top of the screen washed out. If I tilt it so the top of the screen looks good the dock looks washed out. I think I've found the spot now where it seems to be more uniform but it isn't perfect.

Completely agree with this - and as someone else said, calibration will improve the colours, but this type of viewing angle issue can never be fixed.

It's just a matter of whether this bothers someone enough to return it.

Lets look for some flower arranging books and sell our cameras........we are "ignorant" and "non pro"

Remember when a "pro" user tells you YOUR display is crap they are right......

When you say YOUR display is great a pro user will say your opinion is "subjective" because you know no better.....because you are not "pro"

Your right! We could get a lot of books if we sold our cameras and our useless MacBooks! (if anyone even wanted to buy it with a screen this bad!)

Time, i think to draw a line under this display thing.......

The MB display panel is not the best in the world, but i think it is the equal if not slightly better than my old whitebook, one thing is for sure its a heck of a lot brighter.....i love the LED backlighting......and if what i read is right the LEDs should last a lot longer than the old tubes used in the older macbooks......after 14 months my old macbooks screen backlighting had turned to a muddy gray instead of white.......

Lets hope the LEDs last longer eh ?

*EDIT*

"Improved Reliability

As they are a solid state semiconductor device, LED have a longer lifespan typically lasting over 100,000 hours. Being solid state devices, LED will perform exactly as when they were manufactured as opposed to CCFL which loose light output continuously over their life - up to 50%."

YAY !

"Pro" is a computer with features that you pay for. Buying a "Pro" does not make you a professional, rather that is something earned with experience, skill, and knowledge about your specific career.

Some professionals buy "Pro"s, because they need/want the features. Some non-professionals buy "Pro"s because they need/want features.

Therefore by not buying a "Pro" you are not less of a person. Rather, you have weighed the features and determined that the non-"Pro" computer is a better fit for you, for whatever reason.

Its your money! You go to a store, look over the models and consider their differences. Weigh in the features and consider the costs, and make your decision. :)

No...what I am saying is a photographer buying a MB and not investigating it's capabilities and the quality of the display makes the photographer not very good at their job. You can be a serious photographer and use a MB, just as long as you know the MB limitations.

Personally I print at a lab and did a few press checks and then calibrated. To me my Cinema Display looks off compared to the printers outputs.

I wanna know why someone wouldnt use a color screen shot comparison to show how bad ALL the colors are on the MacBook screen.

Personally i'm sick of people trying to tell ME that i have a BAD screen.. Yes I understand everybody has an opinion, and it's all cool.
Everybody can believe what they want. But when they start telling us we DONT KNOW what we've bought, or we have LOW standards... that's too far. I don't see how it's anybody else's problem?!?

I was totally just kidding!!! Me and 'cogsinister' just kinda had a joke going earlier if you read above.
You should know I'm happy with my screen! I dont care what anyone else thinks! Im happy and thats all that matters to me!
