On trips, I use my current laptop to view movies and I am not the only one watching as I'm usually on vacation with my family and they watch the movies on my screen as well and I know how annoying it is to watch movies on a bad-viewing-angle [lmfao, lack of vocabulary] screen

I wanna know why someone wouldnt use a color screen shot comparison to show how bad ALL the colors are on the MacBook screen.

I wasn't trying to show how bad the Macbook is. Was just doing a simple comparison with black and white since blacks seem to be the biggest complaint.

HAHA sorry!! Im so used to people showing 'how bad the screen is'
My mistake! ;)

I was totally just kidding!!! Me and 'cogsinister' just kinda had a joke going earlier if you read above.
You should know I'm happy with my screen! I dont care what anyone else thinks! Im happy and thats all that matters to me!

Oh i could read your sarcasm..
I was agreeing with you!! I LOVE my screen as well..

I think I may go ahead and get the $1599 Macbook.

However, all the talk of screen problems worry me. How bad are the displays? Does anyone find it livable? It will just be my portable, not main computer.

Don't listen to or be fooled by all the people here who like to put-down Apple's products. The new MacBook is fine. The glossy screen is great. Personally, I like it more than matte. You won't regret getting a new MacBook. Good luck!

Oh, and I have the 9C8C and LOVE it.. did a good calibration on it and it works like a charm even for movies.

Thanks all. Some good information to come back to.

I still don't know which MacBook, or if I want an Air, but I feel better going with the MacBook screen now, if I choose the MacBook.

Thanks so much. It's a tough decision, with two good models: MacBook and Air.

my friend has the lower end Macbook and his 13" screen is perfect, when i go over his house i don't see a difference in quality from his 13" Macbook to his family's 24" iMac.

i have a santa rosa MBP the alum macbook and the 23" apple cinema HD display alum

the mbp screen is noticably better than the screen on my macbook to me the most noticable difference is how dark the blacks are it just feels really "crisp"

the 23" hd is just an amzing screen overall I really like the fact that it is matte and it is really easy on the eye
the macbook screen isnt the greatest but I have gotten used to it and if i never read these posts or saw the other screens it would be fine.

I just use it for browsing the web, work related stuff emails internet. I also watch a ton of movies on this computer and it is really great since you can lay in bed and bring it wherever that was one of the biggest negatives I had with my MBP. THe mbp is an amazing machine but it is just a tiny bit to big to bring everywhere.

the MBA is another computer to think about but it does lack in some areas but makes up for a lot since it is so thin and has a great screen.

If they came out with a black alum macbook wth the MBA screen and keys that didnt wear and get shiny Id pay 2500 in a second!

I own both. Both are very good. The Pro screen is better, hard to argue otherwise, but not sufficiently better that it should be the primary deciding factor in a purchase decision. IMO.
